Converting 300 GD To 290 GD
I want to change my 460 300 GD ( Engine OM617 ) automatic transmission by a 290 GD (Engine OM602)
- What are the required modifications ?
- What about the engine mounts ?
- What about the automatic gearbox ?

what is the 290 engine out of ? was it manual or auto gearbox ? is it with turbo ? ....

I have an OM 617A turbo diesel fitted to an 300SD Automatic LHD saloon this engine will fit into either LHD or RHD G wagon with very little engineering and little effort..need to change the exhaust to bigger bore to let the turbo breathe to maximum efficency and your automatic gearbox mates to the engine without modification..car is non runner but would ship in a container

my old gbox isn't OK and needs replacement
shipping from UK plus the expensive customs fees in my country make it difficult to buy heavy parts from UK.
I found the 290 GD engine + gbox in my city but before buying them I want to know about the engneering modifications ( if any )

if the engine and gearbox you have is from a 290GD model 461 G wagon the transplant will be easy if from another vehicle at it has electronic fuel management then very difficult
Hi Ayman, before going ahead with any of the engine options mentioned on this blog, why don't you try driving a 290 or 300 (with and without turbo). I think you'll be amazed at the difference. Frankly, the non-turbocharged engines really are very tardy at lugging 2.5tons around: albeit that they are wonderfully simple. Good luck/ph
I believe it was dismanteled from a 290 GD
Does this engine come in saloons ?
What about the engine mounts ? somebody told me I have to shift the radiator forward ?
