As part of my refurb/TT project I'd like to completely re-do the cabin area. One idea I have had is to make it a separate compartment. I know MB did a metal an mesh bolt on kit, but I was thinking of something more solid. Does anyone know if MB make such a thing, or would I, as I suspect, be better drawing it up and getting it fabricated locally?

All ideas very gratefully recieved.

Thanks.

Ian

PS Work should be starting very soon. Pics to follow.

Re: Cabin divider

Having been innundated with a plethora of responses to my post about creating a cabin, I'm now wondering if there are terribly obvious reasons as to why this should not &/or cannot be done. Perhaps it's just that you good folks are far too polite to cast aspersions on my loopy idea!

Thanks folks.

Re: Cabin divider

Hi

I can only come up with a few part numbers on EPC for a solid  metal divider / bulkhead and none of them are available from MB anymore.

Radio Cabin Bulkheads...

A460 710 03 01
A460 710 04 01
A460 710 06 01
A460 710 00 36
A484 710 00 01
A484 710 05 01

So not much use really....

Never seen anything in Fibre Glass or such like

All others are just wire mesh dividers

Re: Cabin divider

hi there.

frome what i understood you wish to divide the driver area from the rear bench seat where the passengers sit and not the boot area....

if so, i have a military style mesh devider i picked up a few months ago... its ultra rare ! i have it for my cabriO g but i am in two minds as to whether or not i want to fit it...

Re: Cabin divider

I have not contributed because I have nothing to add.  I am aware there are one or two pick up versions about, but I have not researched these as yet.  If streatched, all I can contribute is, to use the rear end as parts to build your partition.

The rear outter quarters will have to be formed in and the middle, can be the tailgate, welded in between the quarter panels.  Retaining the rear window glass.  Obviously, the crudness will be needed to be refined.  The advantage here is, these panels are already part of the vehicle and can be put to use.

Cheers,

Re: Cabin divider

Thanks to everybody.

@ Gav. Many thanks, have pm'd you. Would here be any chance of tracking down the diensions/template for the divider, or is that a bit wishful?

@ Hus. Hi there! It's a SWB 463 with the back seats removed and twin gas tanks mounted on each side over the rear wheels. What I want to do is create a cabin by putting a divider pretty much immediatley behind the two front seats. I was thnking of something solid (with perhaps a rear view apperture) that could be covered in the same trim as the rest of the cabin. Whilst it sounds as though your mesh divider would be wasted in this context, it may be very useful as a basis to fabricate a solid divider so a few pics and some dimensions would be very very useful :)

@ Rakesh. We may have crossed wires here or I might just be being a bit thick. I think you're suggestions are for converting to a pick-up. Shoot me if I'm wrong!

Thanks again and all the best.

Re: Cabin divider

ford transit connect van lwb has  a 2 piece bulkhead cab divider with a section for a window through already formed into it ,i have such a van and take the top piece out when i carry friends in the back on long journeys i am sure it could be altered to fit in to a g as it is similar dimensions ie. a lot of the work is done for you and it should be available new or second hand failrly cheaply, do not make it totally air tight or the heater will not work very well ie. it will not ventilate the cab space .
please look on gumtree advert ref. 109468009  that is what you want   £40.

Re: Cabin divider

Thanks Axel. Gav has come up with a similar idea using Sprinter bulkhead. More to the point he's two hundred miles nearer!!! Good tip on air tightness.

Many thanks,
