So I'm thinking of getting a re-spray and although I'd love to stick with the original silver, I'm thinking of going down the black route. Thought I'd check though, if you were offered a free respray, what colour would you go for...

Re: Best G colour...

Black or a shade of black is the g-wagens best colour; silver the worst particularly  when colour coded. Some of the pale shades on early 460's leave a lot to be desired too. However as a g is a car for eccentrics pay your money and make your own choice, the engineering is more important than the colour. Having said that you can get some hilarious colours and interiors

Re: Best G colour...

Hi all merry xmas ! , black or any dark colour looks great when the bodywork is in perfect shape !  otherwise as with any dark colour dents and creases or bad previous body repairs notice more and if your G has had any body repairs the work has to of been done perfect otherwise the blemishes will stand out like a sore thumb ! . I personally would go for the new dark grey pearl on the new g wagens or the 2010 range of mercedes cars i think with grey metallics they look great and you dont notice the dirt so much as with a dark colour . regards stevo

Re: Best G colour...

Unless cost is no object I always recommend keeping to original colour
Having said that I have seen a good  colour change job where the bulkhead was done with a rattle can after return from the spray shop
Anyway silver is a very practical clour in terms of upkeep

Re: Best G colour...

Ditto that colour and those wheels look awesome G Singh. I've opted for 19's on mine, mainly cos I can't find any decent 22's! Tektite Grey also looks good.

Anyone know what colour this is:

Don't say blue.. I know that!

Re: Best G colour...

Silver is good (possibly biased) as it is low maintenance ie can get dirt without looking too bad

Re: Best G colour...

 Tee,

Unless your getting the respray for free- have you considered wrapping it in Vinyl?
Lots of benefits to this:
-original colour is still kept
-cheaper/cleaner/quicker than a spray job
-can re-wrap a specific panel should it get scratched
-change it next year when your bored of it...

Just bought a G from Bill, he's getting it ready for me- didn't like the stock Matt Green that it was in...
it will be reborn with in Obsedian Black ....

Should be with me sometime in Feb
:) :)

Re: Best G colour...

if you consider a wrap, Magno Platinum might be an option, looks great on a G; I would not recommend it for a re-spray as even for a non-4x4 maintenance is hopeless.

Re: Best G colour...

shufly I'm getting the respray for a good price and there is also rust that needs sorting on the car otherwise I would have wrapped the car myself! I'm really liking grey, that one above ^ is awesome. I think I've also fallen for the lwb over the swb, so back of my doubt I don't want to start working on mine in case a reasonable lwb comes up :/

Re: Best G colour...

What does it cost for a vinyl wrap? How resilient is it? Do brambles and branches tear it off, just slice it  or is it tough enough to withstand reasonable (?) contact with vegetation? Is the material translucent at all? For example, would a light colour go over an originally dark paint job, or vice versa, without it showing through.

Presumably, if a different colour from original is applied, I assume one is obliged to tell DVLA of a colour change, but bearing in mind that it could be changed back on a whim, is that a requirment? I quite fancy my white lwb G done in the camouflage wrap that I believe some footballer has had applied to his Bentley, of all things. Nothing like a bit of bad taste....

Obviously I know nothing about this stuff and would value the opinion of anybody who has some experience of it.

Sorry - this looks like something a kid would do. Not too sure its a pattern I know of!

Q - Which pattern were you thinking? DPM, ACU, CADPAT etc....?

Re: Best G colour...

No, not that one, Spider, that looks like it's splashed through a puddle. Believe it or not, there is another Bentley that has been done out in an urban cam pattern, presumably the inspiration for the one you depict, as I can't imagine a footballer would come up with that all by himself. Although, looking at it, he probably did.

I can't remember the particular official nomenclatures for the various patterns we used to apply, but the more I think about it the more I realise that vinyl "Wrap" probably wouldn't achive the effect I have in mind.

We used to do a superb camouflage finish to some of the Pinzgauers for MoD. It was to aircraft standard, but that would just be a waste of money on my old bus.

May be I'll resort to Matt Black and attack it with a sponge to get the desired effect.

Thanks for the response, though.
