Re: autobox problem

Get the gear box oil level checked and corrected as necessary, firstly.

Warm / cold/ running/ in "P"?

Re: autobox problem

 Hello Geoffrey

Best checking the oil when hot after, say, a five mile drive.  On flat and level ground, vehicle in 'P', hand brake applied.  Engine runing, remove the gearbox dip stick, wipe off the dip stick with a cleanish rag or paper towel, dip the stick back into  the tube all the way in and wait a few seconds before removing it, ensuring the dip stick is held up right and not tilted.

The oil level should register in between the two marks.  The top mark is maximum level of oil, when checking hot.  The bottom level is the maximum level of oil, when checking cold.  Ideally, the oil should be below or on the mark, that is top mark, checking hot.  If the oil level registers half way between the two marks when hot, that is acceptable, but if it is below half way, between the two marks, when checking hot, add a little oil carefully.

Should your vehicle not have a dip stick as some modern  Mercedes's are, then you will have to get a dealer to check the level or order your self a relevant dip stick.

Cheers,
