Anybody know if a diesel G Wagen would be affected by new London low emissions regs in january ?
Thanks in advance for any info.
A 461 van will be.
460, 463 aren't. Wouldn't like to say for a 461 station Wagon though.
Hi Trevor
there is ssomething in this legislation about 9 seats!! ..so the LWB with load space seats could be the way to go....
It 'WAS' based on comercial i.e not PLG classification on V5, this is why so many old Landrovers are being shunted out of the capital as they had been creaming lower tax years ago being a commercial vehicle now they are paying the price as ther is no way they can meet emissions. Only why to reclassify are changing to camper classification.
Best way is to use TFL's checker.
There is a 100% discount of you have a nine seater vehicle, however you do have to provide proof with your V5C form that must be listed as being a 9 seater. I have applied for this discount, but before you do you have to get DVLA to change your V5C. This can be done by writing to;
Ms.R Reeves
VC1 D4
DVLA
Swansea
SA99 1ZZ
And providing DVLA with some photos of the extra seats (make sure you have seat belts in the photo and both sides), a photo of the door open with the reg plate clearly visible. Once this is done you have to fill in the CC form; (found under vehicles with 9 Seats section)
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/congestioncharging/6733.aspx#Vehicles.
However as pointed out I think this is only in relation to the 463's as they are classed as family vehicle - not too sure if you are using yours as a commercial vehicle.
I Sent my form off last week and am waiting to hear back from them if I have passed.
Hope this helps

Thats to do with congestion charge, not the LEZ

From TFL site.
Light 4x4 utility vehicles
There are many types of light 4x4 utility vehicle. It is their classification (decided by the manufacturer and the European Union) that determines whether they're affected by the LEZ or not.
Light 4x4 utility vehicles classed as cars are not affected by the LEZ. Those classed as commercial vehicles are subject to the LEZ. This can be found on a VSC registration certificate under 'Body Type.'
Any vehicle designed to carry goods, or more than nine passengers, is classed as a commercial vehicle, even it's only used for recreational purposes. These include:
All models of pick-up vehicles, including dual cab pick-ups
Commercial or 'panel van' variants of light utility vehicles (these can be identified by having a goods-carrying capacity in place of seating and metal panels in place of windows)
Light utility vehicles that have more than 8 passenger seats
If your light utility vehicle is subject to the LEZ, then you can find out about your options
If you think that your light 4x4 utility vehicle has been classified incorrectly, please register your vehicle with TfL

Hi Mark
most G wagons are classified as "Estate"on the V5 and with windows all the way round and not liable for VAT at time of purchase ......should they be in the "Non Commercial"category...
Hi Fixwin.
460's and 463's are classed as cars by TFL (Non Commercial"category) I imagine they class Estates as cars.
They classified mine as a 5 door hatchback
A 461 van will be commercial, and I would guess that with a 461 Station Wagon you would need to refer to V5.
D'oh!
The London Transport site is a bit odd when I put in car details (classifying G as a 4 x 4 Utility vehicle) it says it will be affected by the regs but when I put in the reg of my last diesl G it says not.
There will be a lot of second hand diesels of all flavours on the market in London come January would be my guess...
