Spent a lot of time under my G chipping off rust and generally cleaning the chassis suspension springs axles etc.I bought a air chisel which speeded things up but it is pretty aggressive. Everything cleaned up fine except the mountings for their rear springs which were corroded and out in holes.I managed to get everything welded up and after a coat of red oxide and then mat black everything is looking good. I refitted the springs and my new shocks. Last job was a good coat of underseAl and she is good for a few more years. I am now looking to replace the pins in the hinges of the drivers door .Where is the best place to source these? Many thanks to all who have given help and advice and wishing you all a happy new year PETER

Re: work goes on

Hi Peter

You can buy the whole hinge, then you need to cut the old ones off and weld the new one on.

Hi Scott is buying the whole hinge the only option? I thought I could knock out the old pins and replace. Seems like an easier option but maybe not possible cheers Peter

Hi Peter

As far as I know, you cannot buy the pin alone.

There will be wear in the hinge itself any way, so replacing the pin alone is not the best solution, unless you ream the hinge out and fit an oversize pin, easier to replace the whole hinge....

Hi Peter Pretty sure I had just the pins done on mine when it got refurbished.. Sure Gav will be along to advise availability etc. Also unless your G is in terrible shape pretty sure the hinges unbolt? Unless - and whilst I have had the door cards off loads I can't be sure - for some reason they weld them onto the door? As you say I thought they were a 'loads of WD40' then hammer and punch operation. Mind you sounds like Scott is speaking from experience here :-) Simon

Re: work goes on

Hi Simon

Yes, been there. If you can get pins, certainly would help to replace them, but if you want it like new, there's only one way..

They are welded to the door then bolted to the pillar.

Cheers Scott

You can buy the pins. And they don't fix the problem.

Re: work goes on

Early 460 / 461 Pins A460 743 05 52 £2.13 + vat each Germany have plenty of stock (List as up to 1984 ish)

Late 460 / 461 / 463 Pins A460 723 00 52 £3.21 + vat each Germany have plenty of stock (List as from 1984 ish)

Early had a little Plastic Plug in the top to remove first

Front and Rear, Top and Bottom all the same

Rear Tail Door - No Pin available

However by experience would go with the consensus that nothing but changing the hinge will usually cure it!!!

Confusing myself as to how to understand whether you have the original hinges still fitted or they have been replaced?!?

Look like they all bolt to the Body Pillar with 4 M8x25mm  bolts

460 after 1989 bolt to Door with 3 M8x18mm bolts? As do the 463's?

Are the early 460 ones Welded to the Door?

Looks to be 3 main hinge types? Stand corrected here!!! They all look similar i guess...

460 Early - 1979-1984? - Welded - Early Pin

460 Mid - 1984-1989? - Welded - Late Pin

460 Late - 1989 On - Bolted - Late Pin (463 type)

Re: work goes on

I did get an engineer to make a new pin and rebush the housing of the hinge, cost £10 I think, but didn't work well on the back door as all moved around too much. Still have it if anyone wants it.....

Tried new pins doesn't work as hinge has play.

Luckily all mine bolted on, don't forget you have to have them painted as well.....
