hello I'm really confused and looking for someone's professional help. I've been ringing round for days trying to find out what oil my g240 wolf needs. I think engine is OM616 1988.Some garages think it's 5w 40 fully synthetic, while someone else has said 10w 40 semi synthetic. Also I could do with knowing what the correct oil is for the gear box and what's the correct diff oil, somebody thinks the diff and gear box will be the same oil. Somebody help me!!!!!

 Thank you

Re: What oil for my g wolf .

Hello,

you have a wide choice of engine oil. If you'd like to go synthetic, then you have the latest MB spec 229.5 oil available from around £55 for 20 litres, delivered by FedEx to your door. This is a 5W-40 fully synthetic ACEA A3 B3/B4 oil suitable for both petrol and diesel. and cheaper than most budget oils:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-L-Genuine-Mercedes-Benz-5W40-Fully-Synthetic-Petrol-Engine-Oil-229-5-NEW/131917456975

For the transmission oils:

Rear and Front Diffs: An SAE-90 Hypoy / EP type oil to GL-5 (1.2 litres front and 1.8 litres rear).

Transfer Case: An SAE-80 gear oil to GL-4  (** NOT GL5 ***)

Manual Gearbox: Automatic Transmission fluid (ATF) - 2.5 litres

Auto Gearbox: Automatic Transmission fluid (ATF) to Dexron-II spec - 7 litres

Below is a list I'd prepared for someone else with a similar question (based on oils available from a particular retailer).

Re: What oil for my g wolf .

You don't need to be spending fortunes on oil any semi 10/40 will do as your 616 in your wolf was developed about 50 years ago !

You will be changing oil every 6k ish mile so long life oil is not required !

Yes, agreed, you can run something like standard Castrol GTX 10W-40,

...but at less that £3 per litre you can run genuine MB fully synthetic 5W-40. (That's cheaper than almost anything else you will find.)

See eBay link above. (sold by MB Newcastle)
