Hello All

At the risk of offending the purists I would appreciate some advice on doing a mild face lift to my 1994 G300 GEL to bring it closer to the existing G350d, I'm not a fan of the current AMG G 63 look and plan to retain all parts removed for future restoration if so desired.

The items I'm planning to change are;

1. The front grill to the 3 chrome bar style.

2. The headlight surrounds to incorporate LED daytime running lights.

3. The Turning Indicators lights on top of the wings to clear lens glass.

4. The rear indicator lights to clear LED units.

5. And fit Running Boards to aid entry to the car.

I have so far found the following sites on the web and would like to know if anyone has purchased any of the items above from one of these suppliers and are happy with the quality. If you can recommend an alternative site or believe OEM parts are of a similar price please let me know.

Possible online supplier;

a.  KITT  -  www.carpartstuning.com

b.  55tech Motors  -  www.55tech.com

c. UKGermanCarParts   -   http://stores.ebay.co.uk/germancarpartscouk/

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Martin

I got clear G500-style wing top indicator lenses from the main stealer, they weren't that expensive from memory. Given you are going for a G350 look, then surely they will be able to do all the parts. Prepare to open your wallet wide for some, I've found a few of their prices outrageous (e.g. recon water pump).

Indicators are best bought from a dealer for the front, wing mounted units. They are cheaper that all ebay offerings.

If you had a SWB, then the side-step /running board kit would be relatively cheap from a dealer, as the SWB is no longer in production and they have stocks to sell off.  Same for side indicators in white, where they soon moved to mirror-integrated versions.

Front, 3-bar grille - I have one available to sell in black, if you like. I was going to upgrade mine, but changed my mind.

Rear light units: The aftermarket LED units are still quite expensive, where ever you get them from. But did you know that the original ribbed lights were designed that way, in common with other MB vehicles of the time,  as they were proven to stay cleaner longer from road dirt.

Re: Wanted advice on purchasing parts

Thats good to know

Many places like that and i know how you feel

Quick one. Made some sleeves for a proper expensive cycle frame last week. Had to have it via bike shop for sons birthday. Mad busy but made the effort in my own time. Phoned shop no answer left message

E mailed shop to be safe. 3 days later frame and bushes still at work so emailed again. Rang shop and was told the boss was with a customer i will tell him when he has finished

2 days later i phoned again. today??. Ok i will pick it up tomo or thursday as i did not know you had done it

Owner phones at 4pm disgusted that we had not done the bike for his sons birthday. Was i to tell the truth or take a beating. I had no choice but to be honest. We now have a contract to fix all his race bikes

Its the usuall story. The owner is sound and understanding the son thinks he owns the shop and the workers dont seem to care. The owner is on holiday as it happens. Main dealers are just the same. 2 who really care and help and 7 who dont care and have no clue. All businesses have them lol

Re: Wanted advice on purchasing parts

Called into local Mercedes dealership this morning to collect an internal door handle cover which cost £1.85 + VAT, which is cheap than advertised online, and asked about the price of front wing mounted indicator units.

The guy could not give me the price of a clear unit however the exact orange colour replacement for my 1994 G300 GEL appeared to be cheaper from the dealer than online.

In order to obtain a price I would need to provide the chassis number of a recent vehicle or the exact part number of a clear lens unit.

Obviously I would prefer to purchase genuine parts from a main dealer if the price is competitive but need to find a way round obtaining a part number relating to the modern part I wish to use.

Re: Wanted advice on purchasing parts

I am sure if they had the registration number of a suitable vehicle that would be sufficient

Any owners willing to lend him their details to obtain the parts
