Dear All,

To all Light-Givers, guardians of Gelande wisdom, and soothsayers:-

the Guntershunter project so far, having managed to remove two broken springs, and shocks ,revealing badly corroded spring and shock consoles upper and lower; and ascertained part No.s:-

  • Console right shock: A460 320 17 78.
  • Console left shock:    A460 320 1678.
  • Console for rear spring: A460 320 2078.

Does anybody happen to know the Part No. for the rear axle lower spring mount,(  is it a part that would translate from a Land Rover Defender ?).

What would be the most economically viable avenue to pursue these parts...?

Is it necessary to Jack the cab 6" clear of the chasis , in order to facilitate the Weld.....?

If so, are there any components attached that one should be wary of, ie. the Lines and gearbox..?

Sincerely appreciate all the Help and serendipity received so far , as it has been an absolute Godsend.........!!

                                         Thankyou.

Gavin...(Guntershunted Munter Magnet..von Unter the Bonnet..!)

Re: w460 G-Wagon Resurrection.

Unless anyone got NOS stuff on here, your only option is to purchase through MB. The spring lower mount, looks like a saucer? These are cheap about 8 to 10 quid as I remember, the upper spring mount is expensive about £100.? It is easier to lift the body, unless you are very gifted! Not that much work to lift body, it is heavy though. Try to source some tube that you can sleeve the tubes that go around spring mount, or it might not have gone bad? You have to disconnect fuel filler, or tank? Two radiator mounts on top, can't remember what else.

Contact Adrian Cox, his austrian contacts may be able to get these parts for a chunk less.

Re: w460 G-Wagon Resurrection.

Worth trying

http://www.mercedes-benz-parts.co.uk

It's an online parts ordering site run by Inchcape in Oxford, so a proper MB dealer with all usual MB warranty etc. but at 10% discount on usual main dealer prices. They don't always come up with the part you want on first search but just use the REQUEST A PART link and they will come back to you with confirmation of a part number and price. It's a bit long winded to start with but if ordering more than a few cheap parts it's worth it.

I have no connection with them or MB but have used it several times with no problems.
