Greetings. I'm in need of a new set of tyres - currently running 265/60 r18.

Having decided to go for BF Goodrich AT's I soon found out that they don't make them in my size - gutted! I've searched the forum and have shortlisted a few other options but my tyre guy is suggesting I just go for a road tyre since I rarely, if ever, go off road and that AT's are noisier. My instinct is to stick with the AT's but am limited to a few options unless I change the tyre size; which I believe is ill advised. I don't want to change my wheels.

I'm now unsure of whether to go for AT or road tyres and which of the available tyres is a good one to go for.

Could anybody suggest a tyre they're happy with at 265/60r18 or could I go to a different size without causing any problems?

Many thanks.

Re: Tyre talk

They do bfg at ko  in 285 60 18 which will fit your truck  go for the KO2s if they're available yet

I had tyres that size on mine and was considering Bfg tyres but I've decided to go to 16" Astaroths with 265 75 16s on because I want to be able to get snow chains in the arches.

Call me if you need any help  or tyres

Re: Tyre talk

If you don't go off road much then don't bother with AT tyres. I use a M/S type which is fine for the few tracks I drive. I switched from 18 to 16" wheels and use 265/70-16 which is the same diameter. I've used Continental, Bridgestone and Michelin in that size and they were all good. I would stick with the standard size too, larger diameter uses more fuel.

But everyone has a different opinion on tyres.

Re: Tyre talk

Hi Sav, I have the 285/60R18s on my truck and they are fine. 500 has enough power for the bigger wheels and braking is no problem. You may wish to put in 20mm spacers if you have the higher ET 18" wheels.Ph

Re: Tyre talk

If you change tyre size from 265x60x18 to 285x60x18 you are only increasing your actual rolling circumference by 3% which will not cause any problems.

Even if you don't do a lot of off roading one of the advantages of AT tyres you might want to consider is that because of their tread depth and harder rubber compound they do last a very long time compared with ordinary road tyres.

Agreed, I have AT's as even though I don't do much proper off roading, I regularly use local unmettaled roads which would be very hard on ordinary tyres.

Re: Tyre talk

thanks all. sounds like AT's all the way. I'll look into getting the bigger size but might play it safe and get a different brand and stick with my size.

I know Spider loves the Coopers but Yokohama Geolanders and Continetals seem to be the most readily available in my size.

Re: Tyre talk

Sorry. Made a mistake about tyres bought: size is actually 285/65R18 (not 285/60). hope that helps you: I have no running problems and don't really hear any more road noise as roof whistles persist from the roof rack more!

Re: Tyre talk

After much deliberation, I played it safe and went with the Dunlops. I must say I'm quite happy with the ride - although AT's would have looked much better!
