Transformed landy nut to G nut !
Hi all my name is Chris and a very big land rover nut! It's a hobby which ventured into a very successful business offering custom land rovers and general work to mainly the Defender model. I currently own a new 90, a td5 off-roader, a series 1 land rover and a v8 defender. A local friend (GOOCH) introduced me to the G Wagon a while back something which I wasn't sure on until just recently when for some reason I completely fell in love with the G. I went out on the look for something within budget and managed to get a lovely G280 from Steve at waterside in essex - a great knowledgable and helpful chap. Upon purchasing the G 280 I could not resist the very rare rhd 96 lwb G300 which Steve had up for sale and now am the proud owner of both. The 280 is currently stripped in my workshop awaiting a new Matte finish paint job and custom goodies and I'll make a start on the G300 over Xmas time I'm hoping. So far I'm loving the G and have not stopped driving it - even over my high spec defender. I look forward to meeting a few of you if there are any events upcoming and will get some photos up soon of the builds.
cheers chris

Let me be the first to say WELCOME Chris! To the GWOA......
Friends can I say Chris has a wealth of knowledge and experience on 4x4's, very local to me.
Good on ya Chris I hope you find it easy on this Forum.
Goochie.
P.s seen both the w460 and W463 they are very clean motors, what a way to start a collection not one but two G's in a short space of time.
Goodluck.
If you guys are looking to underseal your G wagons, get in contact with Chris, I have 'dinotroll'd my 1959 vw beetle and am looking to do my G. Very soon.
Clean job!
cheers
Welcome Chris!
Good to see you over here.
We'll have to bring our G's for the next D2 SPTA run then?
Jamie
A warm welcome to the gwoa Nice cars there Sir
Chris,
Welcome to the G world! I would be very Interested in your unsullied brief first opinions of why the G is different (pro's and con's) to LR's. Appreciate opinions change over time, so what is 'fresh' now!
-did own a number of 110's myself so have experience, but just wondered what your take was.
Cheers,
Stewart
Welcome along. The 463 is a very special G in the UK. Please don't tell too many more Landrova owners about Gs. There won't be any left soon :)
No puddles of oil under the Gs. :)
Welcome Chris
Great trucks!!!
You have a cheeky PM

HI Chris,
Welcome to the club and forum, some great advice on all things G, esp with Goochie on hand with his advice.
Next time I see Goochie I will have to take you out in the 500... once you have been there, you WILL want one. Best matched engine for the G.
Landies are good the G is just better. *sniff*

Yes - was that the 'rare' Brabus 'Edition' that we passed each other in the summer? . Yes I was left there, stood, standing ..........

One thing that I always feel jealous of Landy sorts is just how many mods and stuff they have available to them at (by G standards) reasonable prices.
Maybe there's a market for bespoke customisations at Landy prices???
We live in hope.....

Unlikely because there's no economy of scale, just not enough Gs out there

^^^^ Agreed, however there seems to be a lot of stuff available in europe; Germany & Austria especially.
ARB also do suspension sets for the G's (i've got some details at home) plus you can use the military spec HD springs
Just look at the entdecker catalogue for some of the available stuff for G's... and I suppose (unlike a defender), the G has it all anyway... difflocks (which will negate needing ARB/Ashcroft/KAM lockers) or HD shafts as they're HD anyway.
With locking diffs you don't really need mega axle articulating suspension like defenders have (LR always used to say that their long travel suspension means crossaxle difflocks aren't needed...funny that the latest, well late Td5 onwards, defenders have Electronic Traction Control)
I think there's quite a lot of people making rock sliders and winch mounts for G's... shame it's all so expensive as you say, but hopefully the quality is there.

you can have a mass produced INDIAN car
or the only hand built 4x4 up to the individual
Defenders are still hand built though. Although with their build quality, even of late, I think they have one of their hands tied behind their backs.
Have you got the details of ARB suspension for G?
I thought it was a no no?
Though I know Iron Man a possibility.
Loads of hits on google, although I've got a downloaded ARB flyer somewhere for G specific stuff:

Hi
Just wondered what the cost to underseal a SWB 463 would be?
Regards
Neil
Thank you GOOCH and Jim- Jim It would be a good idea as recovery vehicles for the D2 boys hahahaha
thank you to the rest for the warm welcomes :)
stuart- overall there very similar vehicles but the G overall is a lot lot more advanced. Things I prefer about the G is the comfort and wonderful factory extras like aircon central locking, elec windows front and rear etc and especially the amount of cavity wax applied to every panel. Upon stripping the 460 it was clear that there was very little if any rust what so ever. If I was to get a G reg defender in I can guarantee the doors will need replacing and chassi would be rotten along with body work. I do still love the defender and will always own 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 of them haha but at the same time I don't think I could be without the G as there just dam right awesome :)
cheers
