Sunroof in-op wrong roof lighting module fitted. Can anyone help??!!
Hi there, lightly restoring a 2001 G Wagon for a client and we cannot get the sunroof to work. Upon investigation the lighting control unit which also houses the sunroof switch has been replaced with an incorrect unit from a C Class!! Mercedes dealer cannot help as apparently the build card is incomplete and they would need the numbers from the old one to match it!! Can anyone help here please?? We're really at a standstill without the part numbers. Thanks in advance
Far as i'm aware this part is discontinued
sunroof panel switch
whats the chassis number? Maybe i can try and help !
** Yes C class w203 sunroof switch will not work at all as your aware
Is the cluster the relatively flat type with the seatbelt sign that flashes or the newer and curvy shaped unit?

good point Jim but i think its the newer interior changeover year as he's mentioned c-class unit, classic mistake people make thinking the w203 will work, identical units but relay inside is different.
I went through this too once w463 part numbers the only unit that will make the sunroof move back/forward

chassis numbers all you need and the build spec will show
chassis number is WDC4633331x125128.
Mercedes dealer narrowed it down to 3 possible units but couldnt help further without my old unit part no. which obviously i havent now got!! i was told i was welcome to order all 3 units at a cost of £1400 but they would be non returnable.
thanks for your help here guys.
Hi mate
Trying to de-code that Vin but its not showing any info
Is that the correct Vin number?
* Just a hint here regarding your 2001 G wagon - This is the first generation of the newer interior year, Mercedes should go by the first part number by looking at last x3 or x4 digits. If its from the USA then it should 99% have the garage door opener built on that unit. In fairness as long as its a w463 part number.
So 463333 is a G400 2001 3x door or cabrio model ?
judging from the available the first two are w203 numbers they would be for non sunroof models. Google images confirmed this and these have no switch/buttons for roof.
The other is with call button and sunroof switch first on the list
part number: A4638200301 Should be the one as it has a sunroof switch! And is 1st gen 2001.
And A4638200401 should also work as this also has sun switch built in.
I thought these parts were obsolete though??
when i enquired formy old G500 i remember 00301 number as its across the board.
If in doubt ask another dealers opinion and see options at a service department.
hi. yes its a G400 but a lwb 5 door 7 seater . yes the VIN is correct. Its a LHD import originally German registered.
So these part numbers refer to LWB and Short, you can chise between bith of them. Sunroofs are notorious for failure in w463's by the way had experience of this and seen on many forums in the world. It might not just stop there as theres a tonne of other prts that might need replacing. Your best bet is when you buy a switch come back here and give some feedback on your works?
That chassis number starts WDB nor WDC as its a euro spec car not USA
With WDB it then goes into EPC and shows build data and helps to narrow down the lamp needed
Althoigh still not straight forward
I would go for the A463 820 03 01 part number with the relevant colour code as required
Which all appear to be 7D43 for both Black and Grey trim
MB have 59 of the A463 820 03 01 7D43 In Germany
MB have also changed the number to A463 820 03 01 64 7D43 and look to have 684 of these in Germany too
chassis number is WDC4633331x125128.
