Is it common for the speedo to break on the G. The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of buying a G advertised in the For Sale section (David Bamford), but apparently the speedo has broken twice on this G. Any general thoughts on what I should look out for when I go down to view.

If that is the only blemish which that G or any other has to have don't worry at all. The speedo cable is a convoluted affair that eventually connects to the transfer box but depending on how well has the cable been routed it would have more or less stress and last for more or less miles.

My older G had it speedo cable changed a few years into my ownership and my current G is a bit nervous down the speed range which indicates to me that it will eventually break sooner rather than later. The problem with G that you're looking at might have been the speedo in its first instance but I bt that it's only the cable this second time.

I'm new to this and have been checking out the forum regularly. I enjoy reading your responses as you have a lot of knowldge on the G. Hopefully in the next week or so I will be a G owner as well, Cheers
