Simply Mercedes at Beaulieu 18th August
The 460 Southern Tour Group attended the above event yesterday, Sunday the 18th. On arrival we discovered that there was a special area set aside for G Wagens to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the GWagen. There were only about 11 Gs present. One being a dealer Brabus demo, 5 new or newish ones and 5 460s. This was a poor turnout I thought, but probably the Mercedes Benz Owners Club that organised it hadn’t contacted either the GWOA or the Register perhaps. The commentator for the day made a special feature of the Gs but only spoke to one owner and a Mercedes guy who claimed to have been an initiator of the original G Wagens. Neither bothered to speak to any of us or to talk to the owner of a 35 year old G present and still in daily use.
There were one or two really lovely old Mercedes present and a few unusual ones. Overall the day was disappointing. Shame there were not more Gs!
Oh well at least it was sunny after the rain.
If anyone knows of any southern uk meetings please post on here with a bit of notice please.
Rowland Kenny.
Hi Rowland.
Well done for making it. In the end I couldn't get there and ran out of hours to make the trip.
The event had been at least mentioned here, but with only a coupe of weeks notice, and summer hols etc, no contingent signed up. We certainly had no clue there would be a 40th celebration - we did that ourselves at MB Brooklands in June.
Did you get any pics? Or any idea who at MBOA it was?
When we get rolling properly again here at GWOA, we will make more links with MB UK, and MBOA and make sure they inform us of these type of events. As well as link up with other G Clubs and Associations.

Wish I'd known about it.
That seems to be a general problem - no communication of upcoming events that might be of interest.
It was noted here, just over 3 weeks ago !

But noone at the MBOA mentioned there was a G section, or I would definitely gone. As it was, I left it too late on the day to get there in good time :(
Must be in a special section that I don't have access to. I clicked on that link and got:-
Access denied

Ah ha. Well, the posting was in the 'Members Events and Meets' forum. Possibly the right idea, but there is a 'Public Meets' forum also, and so I have belatedly re-categorised it there, and you can see it now.
This is something to notice in the future when such posts are added. It was just missed this time and now understand it, so thanks for highlighting.
We are getting going again now with renewed interest and volunteering, and one idea is a multi-site tour/meet next year, to be planned over the autumn and winter, covering different quarters of the UK.
There will always be some Member only perks for the nominal annual subscription :)
I'm sorry I missed it too. I had every intention of heading down there but work got in the way!
At least the 40th Anniversary didn't go by completely unnoticed though.
The only way I get to use my G at the moment is to drive it to work and back - I must still like it because I'm using it in this hot weather and it doesn't have aircon!
At £3500 +Vat to retro-fit, it will be a long time before it does...
Best wishes to all
