Can anybody help recommend a specialist restoration company for my 300 GD

It is in original condition 1989. It needs some work on the body and corrosion on chassis. I might go for a bit of an upgrade whilst it is in (a face list).

Thanks in advance

There are a few on here.  It may be a case of 'how long is a piece of string' or how far you want to take it.  Most people with a 300GD take the opportunity to replace the engine with something a bit more lively.

I wouldn't want to preempt a price of such a renovation, but it can be 5 figures.

Or you can have a good motor engineer with fabrication (welding) skills and a paintshop look at it first for some TLC and leave the engine as is.  Hopefully the chassis is basically solid (often are) and you just have to replace the usual bits that fail (shock hangers and spring seats etc).  Plus some replacement panels.

Hopefully you will get some offers.

I am not against a faster engine, but I am not too worried. It is more what is possible on the bodywork, Ideally Original parts, maybe leather seats, wider profile tyres and body kit.

Repair the rust, seal the chassis etc. But a trusted G-wagon experienced garage.

I don't mind spending 5 figures If I get good results, my engine is pristine for its age.

Hi, the rot can go quite deep, there is no point in not going the whole hog, it will come back and bite you!! As said above you don't need a G specialist but a good fabricator/welder, the panels are readily avalble from MB although not stocked in England so a bit of a wait as they come direct from Germany, it is a big job (depending in on how bad yours is?) this is a before and after photo of the rear nearside light cluster, I will add some more photos so you van get an idea of what is involved.

Rubber side strips hide a few surprises, along with bump stops and front light housing.

Those after-pics are a relief. :)

It really depends how bad the target G has gotten.  You can keep them patched up for quite a while if you don't mind some rust bubbles and imperfections.

We need to find a local, recommended, fabricator/renovator for you to get you an estimate.  Calling Bromley...

I've done a few in the past, but it's hard to do a quote from the start, once you start pulling a G to pieces you can be chasing tin worm all over the place , I can possibly do you a report what is required but I'm up north

If you can, get a w463, they don't suffer the rear 3/4 rust the older cars seem certain to have plus many of them were around after the time when the car became a fashion accessory and have had more care lavished on them

Re: Restoration specialists of classic G wagon

I have a 1991 W463, which had some rust repairs carried out in October 2019. These were overseen by my regular workshop in south west London (a private workshop specialising in Mercedes Benz repairs and restoration), but actually done (as I understand it) by a third party body repairer. I thought that the work was really good. Let me know if you would like the details.
