Re: Raid the piggy bank

Another interesting take on a G Wagen.

(Still can't get my head around the prices though, but does make me feel like my one was a bit of a bargain - not in a smug way, just pleased to have found it!)

Well spotted.  If restored properly (i.e documented) the price range does not sound unreasonable.  I would have a look at this car if the engine were not an OM606 but an OM617A (92kW).  It would remain a proper 460 as (to my knowledge) Mercedes built two 300GDs with a turbocharged engine.

Re: Raid the piggy bank
I was there. The cabriolet om606 was really nice and got a lot of attention. It got to 33k and was probably worth that. The 280ge also very nice. Got to 12k on a guide of 13-18k. Also didn't sell AFAIK. If you wanted a very good condition G, that price was right, IMO.
