I am curious to get the engine number of my G350 which is OM642. But I can't find the thing. I have a endoscope to help look under the clutter from above because I don't have a ramp or pit to look from under. But where exactly should I look? Saying at the back is not enough!

Re: OM642 engine number location
Further to this, I still cannot locate a number on the engine block. But found this on the top of the engine at the front on a paper label: See pic. A6420105412 Seems to be an engine number? Can anyone obtain the spec, as there are a few 642 variants (V6 diesel). The second is the oil pan / sump which looks to be A6420146202.

What does your log book say? Does it match the number?

Re: OM642 engine number location

Engine number is 14 digits long

That looks to be a part number

Engine number is often found on a sticker on the rocker cover

Engine number obviously on long book or I can get you it

Assuming your trying to check if it still has its factory engine fitted or a new one under a recall etc?

Re: OM642 engine number location

If you still have the lovely 2012 Peridot Brown one then it's obviously not it's original motor and it doesn't look like the v5c was updated or any MB systems either

Unless that's not your current motor?

That engine number doesn't look like it left the factory in a vehicle as I can't tie it back to a VIN so would assume it's a replacement motor

Re: OM642 engine number location

Looks like it had service measure SMPC675 on 21/6/16 at 44k miles

Can only assume it had an engine as the sticker date matches up?

I should elaborate. Previous owner had the oil sump/pump issue with G350 Bluetec and engine seized when MB said to drive it in. MB recovered it and fitted a new engine. In 2016. But maybe because of their cockup it didn't get updated on the paperwork. Having a newer engine, less mileage was appealing, and also knowing it was MB supplied. So now I should be able to figure out which type of OM642 engine they fitted. They also put in a new radiator. Strange that.

Re: OM642 engine number location

They should have updated their systems so when you go for parts it brings the correct engine number up!

And DVLA need informing and they can update the v5c

And alll will be good in the world again.... ;0)
