Nice one. I didn't know that the V6 looks so similar to the V8 (i.e. in at an angle - are these two engines modular?)

Yes, the 320 V6 and the 500 V8 have a lot in common, including a 90 degree Vee. (The V6 has an offset crank and balancer-shafts to accommodate this).

Pistons and valves too. Substantial cost reduction in manufacturing

Would it be much more frugal on go juice or not enough to justify going for the 500?

Maybe not much more economical, but the mileage is relatively low, and from the picture of the engine bay, There is no corrosion to be seen anywhere -even the radiator brackets are still bright and shiny. Most 14 -15 year old vehicles from northern Europe would not look this good. - and the price seems reasonable.

But, yes, given like for like, I'd probably opt for a G500  (or  a G400).
