Hi - Just arrived as a new member and new owner of a 1988 G Wagen 2 Door SWB 230GE Auto. My Wagen isnt in too bad a condition with some of the expected scabs, and old filler from an old respray starting to show itself, but overall the chassis and structure is very sound. Brakes and Suspension need some improving (not so good in a straight line or braking) and I'd like to look at improvements on power and drivability so any tips on power unit or gearbox/gearing changes are appreciated :-)

welcome, the forum has masses of information and it will take you hours and hours to plough through it, the 230 is a good compromise not as thirsty as the 280 and not such a slug as the original diesels

Hi all

I'm Italian working here in UK, just joined this interesting forum, unfortunately not jet a G owner but looking to become soon.

I'm doing offroad for more than 15 years with Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol so I'm looking for tips and suggestion to make the right choice.

Thanks Paolo

the little Suzuki Jimny is the best value for off road play, the g-wagen is too big and too heavy and often too valuable to risk damage

Re: New Member Intro

Hi

I have just joined the GWOA having become a proud owner of a 2001 G400 CDI.  As it is a LHD import I am having some difficulty in getting insurance cover sorted.  Once I have figured out mt GWOA membership number, I will try Adrian Flux.

If anyone has any other insurance recommendations for imports I would be grateful

Cheers

Richard

Hi Richard and welcome to the GWOA.

Your membership number is 1759.  Your profile will update to show your membership number but at the moment if you click on the My Account section and then on the My Orders section you will see a membership order number which is also your membership number.

I have found Adrian Flux to be the easiest to deal with when insuring unusual vehicles because they prefer to discuss your insurance needs on the phone rather than trying to fill in online forms with drop down menus that never seem to include the vehicle you are trying to insure.

The last vehicle I insured with them was my imported Pinzgauer which was a simple 5 minute phone call.

Re: New Member Intro

Hello Richard,

Welcome...I too have an import - a G270CDi - and although I was with Adrian Flux with my previous G-Wagen, a G300TD, I received a very competitive quote from NFU, coming in at half the premium quoted by Adrian Flux ! I do know though that NFU are quite selective when it comes to your location / postcode.

Cheers Gavin
