With regret this event has to be canceled. Despite various promises from members to attend, at the final hurdle many have fallen leaving insufficient numbers to commit to the event.

It is very disappointing that once again we have failed to drag members from their computers and out into their G's.

The planning that went into this event was as follows. 6 hours driving checking the route and visiting the Big Pit Museum. Taking the underground tour to check it was suitable for members 1 1/2 hours. Meeting with the management team on site to obtain suitable tour times, the canteen staff to propose a suitable and well priced menu. A further trip to a castle to arrange parking for the morning part of the meet and to ensure availability of light refreshments. The above is in addition to the research that was necessary, contacting GLASS and Trailwise to check the condition of the lanes and any access issues.

As an unpaid volunteer it is disheartening to see the effort and expense that went into arranging this event wasted. Please try and support future events otherwise I fear our events diary will look even more like a blank canvas.

Re: March 30th Drive Cancelled.

I for one, sympathise with Kevin in the effort his put in so far. A lesson to be learned from this failing is, if one takes effort to organise any event be it regional or otherwise, and that is to consider the most minimal of numbers attending to any event. I would go as low as three to four attending and no more. Any higher attendants seems to be a guaranteed failed event.

Alternatively, before any event is organised, do a survey of how many would be interested to the event and take from there in getting firm and non refundable commitments and then start organising other wise it is simply a waste of time.

I am sorry for you Kevin. Personally, I did like your idea very much and wondering if we should open our doors for non members in such events like the Mercedes Benz or Land rover clubs'; it could act as an open day to our club. It seems the Nations' austerity is still a cloud over our heads! And they tell us us we are in recovery. Sorry, I going Political.............

 Thanks Rakesh.

What is more disappointing is that 5 people confirmed their attendance and four of them did not have the courtesy to contact me to tell of their intentions not to participate. Had I not of contacted them today then the venue would have been let down by the non attendance of the GWOA members.

Re: March 30th Drive Cancelled.

if things don't change, they will stay as they are..not surpirsed..been there mate. Might be better to do it later on in the year, say May/June when the weather is a bit better. March is a funny old month for weather, a cross between winter and spring, can be quite foggy. Even so still no excuse for people not to call you, shame on them !

Would have loved to of come in my new toy. Id join other non-marque clubs and you will get a better gathering. Id love to have come in my FJ,, but im to busy watching the sun go down in the desert these days. Always a great site to see.

Re: March 30th Drive Cancelled.

As confirmed participants of Kevins drive I should point out that those of us who were looking forward to the event also had to make arrangements to be able to attend.  For Julie and I it was necessary to arrange cover to deal with the horses and for Julie to change her Sunday shift with a co worker.  Up until the cancelation we were anticipating a fun day out.  Perhaps some of our members prefer to polish their G`s instead of exercising them.
