Hello from Borehamwood, I own a 1984 230GE I've had it over 10 year and it's been on and off the road many times. I want to get it back in the road again so I'm looking for a garage that will fix my blown head gasket. I'm not having much luck as most places don't want to work on such an old engine so if you have any recommendations they will be welcome. The nearest place I could find is in Crewe. Apart from that I want to recondition the radiator (I found  a place in Luton that does that) also replaces the blower and I know that's a bit of a job  taking the dash out or maybe I can do it when the engine comes out. Any way nice to be here and hope to meet so of you guys on an open day some time soon.

Welcome Simon,

and well done navigating the joining process and not making your first post a multiple one (post creates take a minute to happen!).

Finding real garages that work on real mechanical things is becoming an issue, and it is not a G-Wagen thing.   My own garage can sometimes be like this - they will take the car in and get to a point where they say - you need to find someone else to do this or that, when it gets tricky.

But there should be many MB experienced mechanics who can change a head gasket.

Maybe Raj at Super Car Services will do it... in NW9. He has been recommended for G work before.

I also have to replace a 230 blower... I did the dash out thing in the past and replaced the bushes, but its failed again and I want a new Blower.  Finding them is the problem.  And it may just be the switch.

Good luck with the resurrection.  You probably have some rust to sort, and maybe shock mounts... the usual things for 80's G.

Welcome, Simon. You might go to "Search", look for heater blower and soak up some info from others experiences. I replaced the fan assembly on a 460 some years ago. It is do-able. Disconnect the battery, remove the steering wheel and go for it... slowly. A full day saw the dashboard stripped out; a half day saw it replaced at the end. While at it you might flush the heater radiator matrix and check all the hoses. Good luck with your project.

Sure a good garage ca  sort the head gasket for you? I don't think you need the help from Crewe?

Bear in mind that I am not a mechanic but I'd definitely recommend that the garage you choose gets the head skimmed when replacing the gasket.

Too many stories here and elsewhere of people having to get the job done a second time because  the garage decided to save the customer some money and just replaced the gasket.

Re: Hello from Borehamwood

Just the centre of the dash to be removed,  its not too hard to do but due to the sharp edges of the dash you need plasters on hand

Nar in Northampton manufacture radiator cores for g, 180 plus vat for a 2 row core or 215 plus vat for 3 row , this is supply of core supply only

As per regards of your head gasket you need to find an old style garage,  there isn't many about ut you need to search that m102 engine is similar to most w123/124,190 so you should find someone

Good luck

Simon, I removed ScouseG duplicate post and it took your reply with it. Another website quirk. Sorry.
