Hello from Munich.

I'm a new G-Wagen owner, having just bought a 1985 W460, 280GE automatic.

Car is currenly in London, and the plan is to drive it up to Scotland at the end of the month, and put it in somewhere to get a realistic assessment of what needs to be done.  According to my son, it drives well, although with some (hopefully) niggly electrical issues affecting the heater blower and the radio.  Possibly more significantly, he also reports an issue of engine run-on on key-off but only when the headlights are on.

I'm really looking forward to getting to know the car, as that will also mark my being able to spend more time in Scotland again after nearly 20 years in Germany.

Having spent a little time browsing the site, I'm enjoying the wealth of knowledge that is on display.  I'm pretty sure I'll need to tap into it in future.

All the best,

Ross.

Ha,

So today I learned that "Saving" equals "Posting" on this forum.

Sorry for the duplicate post.

Ross.

Re: Hello everyone!

Welcome Ross.

A feature of this old site is the time it takes to save/post a new message, with little to show its doing it.  Often results in dual postings, and they get cleaned up where possible.

Good luck with the G.  That's a long first trip. And not the cheapest in one of the thirstiest 6 cylinder engines.

I'd have to guess that the Blower is seized and not a simple electrical issue - very common, almost mandatory, problem with G's.  I've replaced 2 and it is unfortunately a dash out job with some tricky to access screws.  Basically, even if its just the blower resistor, to get to that is the same, so replace the blower itself at the same time.

Not sure about the possible run-on.

Post a pic sometime, using the 'Choose File' button under the text box.
