Hello everyone and thanks to Maxwell and Nicholas. Good looking forum and way overdue in the UK!
We have a 280GE LWB auto. which I came across more or less by accident about 11months ago. Offered the owner 50% of the asking price and 2 days later that was it.
I had been looking at LR’s but unless you pay top money to get a young one or one that some other fool has spent their life savings on they are mostly junk. Don’t get me wrong I have a lot of respect for their abilities (I have used/abused most of LR’s products over the past 20yrs) but they are not in the same league for quality as a G Wagon. LR’s off road are however pretty much unsurpassed until they break!
Anyway ours had a full main dealer history up to about 10K miles ago and apart from the usual rot around the rear end is amazingly good. Some fixes still to do. Still trying to figure out why I can’t select 1st gear manually. Heater blower requires fixing/changing. If you go to clubwagon.com there is a tech section that does deal with the blower. Still building up the courage though!! Did have some ideas about using ours for serious off road stuff, but I like it too much and probably wouldn’t get financial approval for repairing it if I broke it!
Looking forward to some interesting stuff and some discussions. Perhaps the above about LR’s should kick some off!

Russ :D

Hello and Thanks

Before spending money on a new blower lie on your back in the passenger footwell, look up,there are 3 block connectors, have a good fiddle with them, you may be lucky. rog

Hello and Thanks

Welcome aboard Russ,

Ask Mortinson or RoyG about this first gear thing, but I seem to recall someone saying that the autos in the 280GE are the same auto box as in the Porsche and that they are designed to only start in first gear when on a hill or under load.

Maybe they can shed more light on the situation?
