I have been with my lwb gd300 turbo diesel off road (with 4 90 Land Rovers). I have to say I drove over tree trunks, rocks, through streams and up and down steep hills (in first gear, low box) and had no problems. The pulling power in low range is just unbelievable. I really enjoyed it. Never got stuck and at one point I thought vehicle is tipping over, but my gee has more confidence then I can cope with it at the moment. Again I can only say brilliant vehicle. After off roading driving home on motorway with 80 mph knowing where I just have been before with same vehicle is simply incredible. Okay, I scratched paintwork (from branches) but nothing to worry about it. Anybody with similar experience? How do I get paintwork back to former glory?

Uh, Oh! Don't know what to say. I would say that scratched paintwork is the main trouble that I have suffered from off-roading my Gs and wouldn't know the solution to this problem. That's why the older and scrubbier the G the better for off-road use!

I found my silver metallic G's paint to be more resillient to damage than the non-metallic Agave Green of my other G, though.

If non metalic and it has not gone through the top coat you can use a fine rubbing compound. T Cut is one trade name.
If metalic you could try one of the coloured polishes. Does a tempory fix.
BTW were you green laning or at an off road site?
Just curious, I'm only 50-60miles away from you.

Balla?

Hello Russ

Thanks for replying. I will try T-Cut. Let you know how it turns out.
Well, where was I? The 4 Land Rover 90's (friends of mine) challenged me tp go with them and I just followed them. It must have been near Balla (does that ring a bell?). All they wanted is to see me getting stuck and a Land Rover would have to pull me out (with a picture taken of course, which would appear in their club magazine) but that didn't happen. One of them got stuck, but I have to say it was a drivers fault not the Land Rover.
Anyway you sayyou are 50 to 60 miles away, may be we could meet in the near future, since here in Liverpool it seems I am the only gwagen owner around. What do you use your G280 for? Look in the section "Introduction" to find out what I do with my gee and what I like to drink.

All the best
Klaus

Off roading

Scratches are battle scars, dents are medals. Have you not seen Howard Greenes

I will do it again

Hello Bill

I do agree with the statement you made about battle scars and medals, but have to say that I use my g also "on road" and I think that is the beauty of it, having a vehicle which can cope with difficult "off road" sections and at the same time drives without problems 80 mph on motorway. If my main interest is off road driving I would have an "Unimog" which is in my opinion is the ultimate off road vehicle ever build. But my interests .... well look into "Introduction" and you will find out.
I wish I could come to the meeting tomorrow in Hampshire (16.11.03) but found out about it too late.

All the best
