G320 Front Hub
I have got water running out of my front drivers side hub, I jacked the car up to change a wheel and oily water ran out of the bottom of the assembly. My guess is the main seal has gone and it also explains a bit of a rumble when cornering. Does anyone have a drawing with parts listing and advice on what will probably need renewing once it is opened up.
Ah well - you can't have one side all nice, new, shiny and perfect and the other side not.
Anyway, do both at the same time and you only feel the financial pain once.

While you are there you might as well do the lot. Original cv boots are expensive, i have heard people using pattern ones. Its the ball ache of having to do it again if it splits
You can get all bearings the same make from a bearing supplier possibly a lot cheaper
I have just done mine and jason gds axles
A proper messy job. Make sure you have a good fitting socket for caliper bolts. Mine were hellishly tight
Right mine has done 200k and never been to bits and only one cv boot had a split in it
The original cv boot clips are a pain to fit. I suggest some from a motor factors. The type you can squeeze tight with pincers
Parts list. I will do it in lines as everytime i press enter my cursor goes to the top of page not the bottom
Wheel bearings inner and outer. The inner and outer grease seals for bearings. Four swivel bearings and the caps they sit on will need to be replaced. Cv boots and clips. Swivel seals and gaskets
2 expensive driveshaft oil seals. foam type seals that sit on wheel flange 2off. Some good cv grease and some good bearing grease and either some silicone sealer or new o rings for abs sensors if it has abs. Its all pretty straightforward but check inside axle tubes for dirt and rust. I made a scraper on a stick to remove it on my friends but i flushed mine as i stripped diff etc. Also be careful with abs sensors as rust forms above o ring and they are tight to remove but will eventually come out. The wheel bearing lock nuts and tab washer should be ok if no one has butchered it previous. Might be worth getting new lock washers 2 off
Its a proper messy job so have many rags at hand but its simple enough just time consuming. Be careful to keep swivel bearing shims in the place they were. Buy same make bearings and i have found it sets to exact original tolerances with zero play
Crack on and post when youve done it or need any help. Oh finally machined a 6 sided socket down shorter so it would fit on caliper bolts. Or cut one with grinder. Yours might be ok but you cant get a normal socket in 1/2 inch drive on bolt and a spanner is not perfect either
I just wrote them down upon removal. I would strip it first to see if its the same. I recon it is but who knows. They are common bearings anyway so might be in stock. A couple of mine were not as i wanted the same makes as original. Sad i know. All bearings are to exact tolerances but i had to be sure
Its not like mercedes where 99% of bearings are fag. G wagons use a variety of brands
Lovely, I can now spend a fortune on bearings, shims, seals, UJ kit and then find the other side is similar. Thanks Mark.
