Not  sure... but vehicle was originally a 1989,460 M110' 280GE, Manual 5 speed and still has the original  transfer box and front and back axles.

I assume you have fitted the 560 with its 4 speed auto box?? Your g will have 4.88 to 1 ratio diffs hence with a 4 speed auto box having a 1 to 1 top gear it will feel like you were driving the old 280 5 speed manual in 4th gear. There is a different bell housing pattern for the 5 speed electronic gearbox so you will have to get your overdrive via a change in final drive ratios , expensive /big job/and the parts that can be used are a closely kept secret by those in the know .

Thank you all for your quick responses and support.

Yes axel... The 560 engine was fitted with the  4 speed auto box.

so... what's involved in achieving the overdrive via  changing final drive ratios???

...is there any one out there who's in the knows?  and can do  this magic!?!?

Re: G Wagon 560 conversion gearing issues...

Yes there are matched different and pinion sets with higher ratios. The big problem is you really need to get a higher top gear as the present 1 to 1 is just no good. Remember the car that donated this engine gearbox combo would have a back axle ratio of 2.6 to 1 instead of the screamer 4.88 . It is possible to get a better ratio It is not a cheap but it will.make a huge difference .. But you must find a way to get an overdrive top gear ratio to make the most of it.
