Yes, the Oshkosh...and what a beast that is. The trailer (by King) is even more impressive..

Fortunately, the Pinzgauers are built in UK, so we do still have a stake in transporting our own military forces.

British Army Gs

If you read press about Ford & it's relationship with LR it is clear the end is nigh, Fords motive is to promote more lucrative civy 4x4s, there is a link between Ford & Daimler CB, & a link between Ford and a number of large vehicle lease companies ie Ryder & Penski both have lucrative military contracts.
My wife works for Jaguar being intergrated into Jag and there are strong rumours of a Jag 4x4 along the Porsche lines have you studied the new Disco one question, you are in a boggy field towing a horse box and you have a punture, how do you get the spare wheel off..
Being seen as a military supplier is no longer PC and makes you a target for activists so put all the pieces of the jigsaw together and come with your own conclusions, which might be completley wrong, but its a good game.

BTW, I heard that Ford is considering shutting the LR Solihull factory this week....

Terrible news for the Midlands if this is to become true...

I wonder if they are so sure of the outcome of the bid that they would not even wait for the publication of the winning bid.....

Just a thought?

Cheers

Doubt if it’s that’s the motive. More like why bother producing something as unique (read expensive to build) as LR’s when you can do some badge engineering. Flog Ford Bronco’s to complete numb skulls badged as Land Rovers. Re. Bill’s comment for the Jag see Porsche Cayenne AKA VW Toureg. The Jag will be the up market rip off version of the Bronco also see S Type = 4x4 Ford Mundaneo. The next ML will probably follow suit and if there is ever one produced the next G as well. The customers always right though and deserve all they get.

Solihull Site

This prime site is the only way Bham can expand it's airport, Ford has allready moved freelander production to Hailwood, Jags Whitley engineering developement factory is to be integrated into LRs Gaydon site. Whitley another prime site is in line for development in Coventry's expansion plan. Ford has loads of spare capacity in its other factories. any way a twin turbo diesel Jag 4x4 I fancy.
Good game.

G Wagen for the British Army

Invited to a corporate day at the largest Mercedes dealership this side of the Irish Sea.

My G seemed to get a lot more attention than some of the glittering offerings!.

Whilst there, their head of AMG, announcing his love of G-Wagens, stated that the rumours are more than a little true, and that procurements were giving the contract to DaimlerChrysler!

Of interest to ourseves was his supposition that initially orders will be for the 463 model type in RHD, perhaps spawning a resurgence
ebirth of RHD Civilian models.

Food for tought, I hope he's right!

Was he perhaps confused with the fact that all civilian/military G-Wagens currently produced in Graz have the engine and drivetrain of the 463? What I mean is that, if the British Army buys Gs, they would be 461s which currently have no option but to be fitted with the engine and drivetrain of the 463.

But I'd love to see a resurgence of the G in RHD, though....
