Re: G imitation
BJ80 is a catchy name however,... and "viola"... I think I'll stick with my 460. It has winkers on the wings.

Re: G imitation

Don't just blame the chinese...

https://web.archive.org/web/20170831032248/https://www.janes.com/article...

"Czech Republic-based armoured vehicles specialist, SVOS displayed publicly for the first time a new light tactical vehicle at IDET 2017 in Brno.

The S80 vehicle has been developed by the company in cooperation with China's BAIC Group [Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd.]. Project-related discussions commenced around three years ago, SVOS' intent being to develop a robust yet affordable vehicle, and one able to fill the capability gap left by the then pending demise of the Land Rover Defender. The result of those initial discussions and subsequent development process led to a design based on the Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd. (BAW) BJ80 - a vehicle that bears more than a passing resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. BAW is a BAIC Group subsidiary."

Apparently the Chinese company also has a cherokee look alike, and interesting it does look like a jeep grill on a G wagen!

To be fair, I quite like the idea of a LWB soft-top!

Re: G imitation

Well, it might well still fill the gap of the old Defender in region, because the new Defender is not going to do that.

A bit like MBs' electric offerings - to me they are an exercise in trickery and gimmickry and not practical e-cars at all.

Re: G imitation

The Chinese G looks fine to me but you would need to drive it and test it to see how long it lasts, I'm assuning its steel and not ally like the latest offering, if so some enterprising Chinese will be fitting lookalike modifications to rectify the front grill
