Fuel pump /s on 1991 300GE (463)
I have a 1991 300GE (463). Can anyone please clarify whether it has one or two fuel pumps? The first one would be at the fuel tank, but I am told by the workshop that repairs the car that the MBenz catalogue seems to indicate another, which is under the nearside rear wheel arch. Can this be a second fuel pump or is it some other mechanism? Thanks, Richard
Hi, I ran a 300GE for 7 years, same year.
Can confirm it had 2 fuel pumps, one under the fuel tank (only accessible after you remove the steel tank protector) and another in the rear wheel arch, a bit more accessible but to get better access remove the arch/wheel liner (and jack up the car if you really want more space). The second one is in a group with a filter and pressure valve.
nice info !
Have you changed the fuel filter?
My single fuel pump (230GE) was replaced, twice, and it whirrs, not whines. On ignition, it runs for 3 seconds ish and stops as pressure is reached. Then it runs continuously as the engine is running (and cannot hear it).
With a ramp, its not so expensive to drop the tank straps and tank and replace the other. About 1-2 hours.
Not sure, but worth changing 1st as a preventive measure and I assume cheaper than a pump
Confirm the previous statements 2nd pump under the rear passengers side wheel arch behind the plastic protector
Great information, thank you very much.
I am trying to deal with a whine that comes from the fuel pump/s/ Pump closest to the tank has been replaced, but the whine is still evident. Difficult to identify which pump it is coming from - perhaps the whine is just the noise it makes? It will be expensive to replace the other pump just in case it is the culprit. Any views please?
