Hi guys, somtimes after a long or short drive when I switch the engine off my engine cooling fan keeps on running, runs for about 5mins or less, is that normal??? It's a 2015 G350 Cdi

Same engine. OM642. V6 diesel turbo. I get this sometimes, just when driving hard or towing and the electric fan kicks in. Happened more in the hot summer we had. Probably normal... My water coolant temp goes up to the 90s celcius (you can see on the gauge, or precisely via OBD). Not happening as often now in autumn.

tends to happen, it is counter-intuitive after a short drive.

Fans operating after engine is switched off is propable due to an air conditioning issue - could be it needs regasing or pressure switch issue. Alternatively, if it is a coolant issue remeber that the coolant needs to be renewed every so often, the times vary from 2 yrs to 5 years depending upon the type of antifreeze used, futhermore the checking for antifreeze content is NOT enough, the coolant needs to be change as  overtime it becomes acidic. Do a PH test with a PH test strip. or test with an ohm meter. Dip the meter leads into the coolant without the leads touching each other and it should not register more than 0.03ohms, any higher then the coolant water is acidic - change it.

Without reference checking I do not know off hand the frequency of coolant renewal of the morder G-Wagens.

My theory is that the cooling water circulation is slowed down until the oil has reached temperature, hence the fan kicks-in after a short drive.
