Hi All,

MOT due... noticed exhaust blowing. Turns out 2x rubber bolts holding exhaust box mid-section both failed leading to joints either side cracking. So during repair by getting box free to clean up joints heard flexi-section below downpipe give way. Some rather choice words emanated from under the car - especially as later my repairs worked fine but exhaust blowing now even worse from flexi. Ar$e. Bit ambitious to hope this section can be repaired... BUT can I get away with a temporary repair to get through MOT? Any advice?

Anyway, looking forward my repairs won't last, so is there value in getting a SS system made up, what does MB exhaust cost and anybody got any recommendations for near Sheffield. Of course a new exhaust might be essential asap!

Cheers All!

What you do depends on your vehicle, but both w460 and w463 systems can be shortened the earlier car by ending the pipe b4 the fuel tank and the later car by deleting the final box which is simply not needed. Good reasons for shortening the w460 pipe are the heating cooling cycle on top of the exhaust box promotes rust and doing away permits the water hugging asbestos shrouding to be removed too. Side exits on either side of the w463 mean less pipe work and fewer pennies spent, the final silencer box on the left hand side is entirely over the top, I'd go stainless

If you want to go down the stainless steel route, try Stainless Exhaust Specialist (01623-552262) at Sutton-in-Ashfield, near Nottingham, they are just off the M1 at Junction 28. I've used them a couple of times and they have been excellent. I have no connection with the company other than knowing that they have worked on a few GWOA members G-Wagen's.
