Hi, Over the ownership of this G I have slowly been replacing serviceable items to keep it in line with MB service schedules etc and I am now gathering information on the procedure to replace the 2 front main engine mounts on this V6 OM642 engine. Has anyone done this on this G engine and is it something that a reasonably skilled lad can do himself ? I understand that the 2 engine mounts are colour coded and have been provided a price of circa £90.00 each, suited to my chassis No. How long a job is it and any pictures or info would be welcomed, as would detailed instructions. Finally, any qualified independents around Leicester who could do the job Properly ? Cheers TC.

I have not done this job on an OM642. Normally the exchange of mounts is fairly simple, but you would require an engine-hoist to support the engine from above or a good jack with some wood blocks to support from underneath the sump.

You will need to remove the front protection plate and see what the access is like. Hopefully, the starter motor or other parts will not be in the way. Check also access to the mounts  from above. Swap one mount at a time.

Thanks for your input Arnie, always appreciated. I took a good look and pre run this Sunday morning after also receiving some info from a German G site where this set up is a lot more known. It was surprisingly simple, unmount the two air filter boxes which sit on the outer block side next to the inner wings - 10 minute job each. It gives very good visual access from the engine bay down, from here a 19mm socket can be placed on the engine mount single top nut , plenty of room to apply torque when I do the job. The 2 lower bolts, each 15mm if I recall, can be easily viewed and reached to from the under side, again plenty of space to re torque. So, the 3 bolts holding each engine mount on can be accessed easily. A suitable trolley jack and a good fitting piece of timber under the engine will allow a 2" lift for the top bolt to to clear the aliminium engine side mounting brackets. . I will apply threadloc onto each bolt upon refit. I will also let you know how long it takes, but I'm estimating about 90 minutes all done. It also gives a good opportunity to service the 2 air filters and fit new ones, as I will, while in there? Cheers TC

Re: Engine mounts w463 OM 642 Vee 6 diesel. ***UPDATE***
Got the job done. Took just over 2 1/2 hours. One additional recommendation to the job is to detach the exhaust at the down pipe post turbo to allow the engine to lift adequately. The yellow marked engine mounts did not appear to have any deterioration as such, but the new ones were about 1" higher ( I imagine the old ones have lost some elasticity and have compressed over time). This "back to original" engine height did require some slight adjustment to the exhaust when re attaching, ( as you know these exhausts do sit rather close to everything). Everything back together and took it for a spin. What a difference !!!! Although I never considered the vehicle to suffer from vibration tingle, these new engine mounts have made it quiet remarkably smooth. Any questions, fire away, happy to inform. Cheers TC
