Anyone any thoughts on this process?

Supposedly gives your engine a deep clean at oil change time

Re: Engine Deep Clean

Seems like a way of cleaning the insides of your engine without opening it.

I would guess the benefits depend on how well your engine is regularly serviced, and I suppose for those who may have neglected their engines a little it may help. I don't think it will address any issues related to ignition, injectors or fuel systems, nor issues with cooling systems or even exhaust/DPF etc - all of which are likely to have a greater impact on performance.

I think any engine, even the cleanest and particularly diesels, will show some carbon/dirt which will cause the filter in this cleaning machine to discolour. Whether that is enough evidence that it's done its job, I don't know.

On some newer engine designs, which have longer service intervals and smaller oil-sumps, leading to a tendency for sludge build-up, there may be a benefit to this procedure, but the M103 is a large engine, relatively unstressed.

This cleaning procedure is unlikely to hurt, but I would probably spend the money on some good synthetic oil and running some V-Power or equivalent fuel, with high detergents, which will eventually clean your engine.

Re: Engine Deep Clean

Oh well, I got talked into it when my car went in for its annual service yesterday (one born every minute they say).

As they only charged me £20 to fit my new fan coupling I was feeling I should return the favour.

Anyway, I can be the GWOA guinea pig and will report back here as to whether or not I notice any difference once I've done a few miles. Obviously an increase in mpg would be the best outcome.

Re: Engine Deep Clean

On the face it, it does seem convincing so their marketing is paying dividends. In balance, I would have liked to have seen a different approach. A before & after approach would be more convincing. They could have engine idling conducted, engine smoke test and or recorded emission levels. My understanding is that effectively an engine oil flush has been conducted. Their machine is doing a more through job than the engine flushing agent poured into the engine conventially. Forte demonstrated similar results to me whilst trading and much cheaper. This machine merely is an "ology" to the process of pouring in other words in my opinion BLING. I advocate engine flush at every oil change for the same reasons this marketing does. So you want your oil to look pretty; flush twice if you have money to burn. Emissions and engine could further improve with the injectors flushing or decarbonising using a concentrate. The end result would depend on how much carbon build up there was in the first instance.
