Electric window non functioning
Mine is a 1991 463 G300 petrol auto SWB
Car been off the road for about 5 weeks for head gasket and radiator replacement and just noticed yesterday that the passenger side window will not open.
I've checked the fuse and that's OK.
I've removed the door panel and lubricated the channels in case the window had just got stuck having been sat for 5 weeks. But that's made no difference. The window is stuck closed so not possible to lubricate the channels as well as I would like. I was expecting a mechanism with teeth making the window go up and down - hopefully the pictures here will make clear what sort of system my G has.
I think I can hear a faint click from the window motor when I operate the switch but that's all - no attempt by the mechanism to move and no motor running noise..
I'm a bit worried about trying to remove the mechanism to try freeing it up and lubricating in case I then can't get it back in place (there seems to be very limited room to work and remove) and maybe there are some tricks I need to be aware of. I also don't want to get into a situation where I get the window down but then can't get it closed again (rain forecast plus imminent trip to Germany).
Does anyone know of any videos or tutorials showing how it should be done or have any words of wisdom.
That looks like a standard cable system, 1 cable pulls the window up, the other down, on the single slider.
Confusingly, its called a window regulator.
A motor is connected to a plastic cable winder, with 3 screws to the backplate. You can get the whole mechanism out, motor, winder and slider in one piece.
There are 2 screws holding the winder lifter/bracket to the bottom of the window - accessed through 2 access holes that line up perfectly when the window is up. Tape up the window, or use suckers to hold it up, or it will drop!
You can get a replacement motor, if that is broken, and bolt it to the existing cable winder and replace.
Good luck.
Many thanks. You've both made me feel a bit more confident that this is something I can safely attempt.
Might wait until after we've returned from Germany - just in case.
