I would be up for a 'healthcheck'. Like going to the dentist, you never know what they will uncover!
There is Raj in Waltham Abbey https:://www.supercarservice.co.uk/service/diagnostics He knows what he is talking about and has a 4wd Dyno for tuning. Not sure if he has full STAR. I was going to see if there can be a GWOA package here, but need to call and see him.
Thanks for the info - I'm all for preventative maintenance so can someone tell me (us) what sort of things might get flagged up with a Star Diagnostic check? Things that might not be noticed during it's annual service and MOT.
I already know that my heater blower only works on two speeds (I'm frightened to attempt the job myself and frightened to ask how much it might cost to have done professionally so have learnt to live with it).
Well STAR isn't going to show much on a 460 (not sure what you have)
For 463, and the later ones with ECU and loads of sensors, I'd expect it to flag up lots more that you cannot see with an inspection as well as know the age of them and hence due to be routinely serviced/replaced. I'm going to get my 2012 463 plugged in and checked. My local MB Indie in Reading (Griffiths) are very good, but I don't know if they have the latest STAR capability - I would assume they do as its their business. Otherwise I will book over in Hertford or Waltham Abbey.
For 4WD Dyno and ECU mapping (for economy and performance) there is another business in Faringdon (Oxon) and I've talked to them also - great reviews, but not specifically a MB or G shop (yet!). So they wont have STAR. Decisions, decisions.
btw - sounds like your fan issue is just the switch - you can get to that easy enough.
Mine is an early (manufactured 1991) 463 300 SWB petrol auto.
I had hoped that it might be just the switch so bought one and swapped it - but made no difference.
Trouble is you have to take out the whole dash, and most of what's behind it to get to the fan and resistor pack.
If I tried it myself, I'd just end up forgetting how everything went back together and end up with even more problems.
