Chassis problems

sorry to hear of your problem. Do you have any pictures?

You say 'left wheel part of the chassis' : is that referring to

a.) the wheel itself (cracked alloy wheel)?

or

b.) a cracked axle ?

or

c.)  or a cracked, chassis cross-member (steel tubes, like the rungs on a ladder, running laterally across the chassis) ?

That is the shock absorber mount, which is a common failure point, along with the the spring-mount tower, next to it.

(It illustrates why it is important to pressure-wash and waxoyl your chassis regularly, or winter road salt will eventually eat away at the exposed points, like these shock absorber mounts.)

New parts can be purchased easily from your local MB dealer's parts dept.

A skilled welder should be able to repair this with the new part, without having to lift the bodywork off the chassis.

That's nasty, need a new shock mount , possibly need to sleeve the tube, don't get ripped off, plenty of people can advise a welder / specialist near you

it's a very common problem even on w463's it almost suggests a design defect but I've been told its just that more road debris gets flicked up on that side. Its a problem but its not the end of the world
