Broken reverse gear. Need mechanic
Just thinking about buying a g-wagen, does not go into reverse gear. Is there any good g-wagen specialist garages in Hampshire or surrounding area.
Would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help.
Manuel or auto?
Please reply if it is a Manual or Automatic transmission.
The most common and easiest fault to address on a Manual gearbox is the the rubber bushes at each end of the gear selectors. When these perish it can make 1st and reverse gears difficult to select. The bushes are of two different sizes. One size fits one end of the selector rod and the other size fits the other end of the rod. If any perished, replace the whole set.
Please furnish vehicle chassis nos for any enquiry you make, it makes things easier for us to reply.
Please provide more elaborate information.
Your header mentions, "broken reverse", is something actually broken or is this a figure of speech?
Based on the limited information you have given, it sounds like you want an automatic gearbox specialist and not a G-Wagen specialist. You most mechanics G-Wagen or not are not expert in automatic transmissions other than servicing them.
A good reputable re-conditioned gearbox could cost some £1300 plus VAT. Beware as the G-Wagens' are getting older; some parts are becoming difficult to get hold of may and d.epending on part not available possible for no repairs to it. With that your options are a sound secondhand gearbox or change to a manual gearbox.
