Hi, I just had my 2003 G270 LWB engine rebuilt.  Maybe due to the salt air here by the ocean or sitting around in a garage off and on for extended periods, that must have caused a variety of engine problems.  Anyway, I found the best guy available in this area and they rebuilt it for me. Now it has 80,000 kms total with a rebuilt motor.

The mechanic told me as a break in process, to keep from over-revving it and not to drive it hard.  He said I should change the oil at 8,000 kms, which I am doing today.  Any other hints to take care of this fresh rebuild?

Photo attached, since someone asked me for one of my 17 year old with less than 80K after my last posting.

Thanks,
Steve

Looks great (for a LHD ;) )

I was told the same for the engine, and on newer ECU based cars there is also a transmission learning sequence to have the auto change the way you drive normally, so worth finding how to toggle it on if your has it, but I assume 2003 is a bit early for it.

Check the state of the oil in the change.  Its a diesel, so it will be quite black, but have it drained not sucked/pumped out, and maybe a small flush through too..

Others will know more.

To be pedantic; the term is "Bedding in", you break a horse but bed an engine.

Now that you have a new engine adopt a practice of flushing your engine at every oil service. There are some good products out there but I endorse BG Products  https://www.bgprod.com/

At every 4th tank full (Must be a Full Tank) add fuel additive - this keeps the inlet tract and injectors tips from carbon build up keeping good fuel economy and lower emissions. Check thier video out   https://www.bgprod.com/services/engine-oil-services/engine-fuel/

The procedure for 'bedding' in the auto gearbox is well described here:
