Bluetec vs "normal" Common Rail
On paper, it seems bluetec is a good thing compared to non-bluetec common rail diesels, as it does away with most if not all of the EGR and engines can therefor run more "pure", more powerful and more efficient?
Theoretically, these engines should also be more reliable, as it does away with the need to allow dirty unfiltered sooty exhaust back into the intake of the engine.
But what are actual experiences of the system? Is it all good or are there major "issues"?
Plenty of experience of Bluetec... and seems great...
Only issues i have seen across the MB product range have been miss filling of the Adblue reservoir on the Commercial range causing issues in the delivery pump / metering device. But that's human error or language problems?
In the PC world with mileage / service filled systems then no issues in operation
Very smooth and clean engines also...
Does blutetec really do away with the EGR?
The Adblue, as far as I understand is a urea additive to help eliminate /reduce soot particulates. The EGR is to re-circulate inert (exhaust) gas to reduce combustion temperature and reduce NOX. Not good for the engine, though, as pointed out. Do blutetec engines not have an EGR?
EGR is easily sorted with a blanking plate and a little reprogramming!
