After changing my nasty gear knob on my 1994 auto 463 300ge, it developed an annoying habit of holding 3rd (I think) gear until the red line if I keep constant pressure on the accelerator.

If I lift off and re apply the accelerator, it changes up ok.

No other issues with gearbox, I know that the S&E switch that would normally be seen in say a W126 or a W124 gearbox is missing on a G wagon, but have I accidently moved it somehow ?

Also how does the 2b thing work as it look to have a bit of black plastic over when the gear shaft would go i

Thanks

Richard

Re: Auto gearbox holding gear until redline

Thanks for the reply Montreal,

Sorted out after a quick visit to the local automatic transmission place,

It was first gear that was holding to the red line and then it was changing to third. I was under the impression that the G wagon started in 2nd gear, so my mistake and mine has a nice smooth change in the lower gear, and the speed it changed at hence why the confusion as to what gear it was in.

Turns out when I swapped the gear knob over I accidently moved the 2 B switch over to on. Then put it all back together. The gear lever would not go into 2B position, as the tab was in the wrong position, which should have been a give away but as I've never used it, or really paid it too much attention, I didn't know any better. I really silly mistake on my part but glad it all back working again.
