Hi there Just bought my first G wagen.

Ive also bought a set of 16" ashtaroth alloy wheels to go onto it. Just wondered if anyone had a picture of 285 75 16 tyres on factory suspension so i can get a rough idea and if they will clear ok?

Many thanks Tom

Well done Tom !

I fink that's the Japanese one which was on eBay ?

I have watching and waiting for someone to buy that little truck ! I wanted it myself !!! But alas, whilst we can all afford anything we want we can't sadly afford everything we want !

Hope she's gone to a good home with you Tom ?

All the very best

Neil

Re: ASHTAROTH with 285 75 16?

Cheers Guys

yes thats the one, im delighted with it, its better condition than a brand new defender I saw.

Its taken me all day getting the wind deflectors off (well the double sided tape actually!)

Certainly the best car ive owned. Im most likely just going to change the wheels and tyres and headlights along with sorting a standard front plate and mount rather than the awful square one.

Would you think the 285's should clear, they always went on my defenders nicely so wondered if anyone on here has that size. It should just fill the arches nicely by my guessing.

The G will be very well looked after, its had a polish and wax allready yes

I know people have fitted these tyres, they are about 33". They might rub just a touch on the steering knuckle joint on full turn and with springs compressed. They won't rub on the wheel archs.

You might like to consider the effect the larger tyres will have on your performance and fuel economy. Both will deteriorate noticeably. I assume yours is a 300GE. The justification for large tyre sizes is off road clearance.

Cheers Roly

Thats what I was wondering about rubbing, Ive always ran 285's on defenders so aware of gearing etc. was more to check they wont rub on the actual car rather than arches. Ill be honest, I like the look of bigger tyres aswell wink

The new style BFG all terrains are very good so noise isnt actually probably going to be much greater, just pulling away might be a bit slower.

Thanks Tom

Hi

I'm on BFG 285's Ashroth. Except mines a W460. I don't think you'll have any problem with wheel arch rubbing. I've seen this wheel size on a couple of W463's.

Re: ASHTAROTH with 285 75 16?

I run 255 85 16 BFG's on my 460 as they have the same diameter as the 285 75 16, less road noise and wander.
