606 in W463
I am thinking going down the 606 route as my 603a has gone bang.
i remember a post by Gordon along time a go about exhaust manifolds but a cannot find it , Is there a clearance issue with the turbo and and steering column with a W463 and the flange has to be remounted?
Many Thanks
David
Hi David,
What exactly went bang on your 603.?
isn't the clearance issue about fitting this engine to the w124
Look on my g wagon project lists
I did not have to change anything on steering column etc
Its close but never touches even with the soft green colour coded and blue engine mounts
Look on it works a treat but i need higher gearing as 606 pulls so well even below boost of turbo
Looking into gears for transfer box or gearbox
Gordon did diffs but as i have just rebuilt all mine and cost of diff crownwheel and pinion i shall look at other options
Hi
Yes i like the e300 too
I have driven my donors and done many miles in them
The last one was too nice to break but i ran it for 8 months as i like them apart from the rust
Drive and handle well for a big heavy car
Hi Jason
It went properly bang!
No 4 rod decided to depart from the block , still runs and has oil pressure but holed both sides.
I had thought about dropping a 606 in but i still want it to look original hence the question about the manifold,
My other option was to rebuild the 603a with the 606 block swapping the pistons etc as i cant find a low mile 603.96x this side of the channel and with the addition of the bigger 606 water pump too.
