Managed to overheat my poor 603, totally my fault, luckily engine seems fine apart from no3 injector making proper racket, swapped with another cylinder racket, chuffing sound still there. Could feel massive air leak up the side of injector. Already had splined socket to remove ring, had to order Laser pre chamber removal kit (£45 ish) removed pre chamber , then things got bad!

Discovered thread holding injector in completely trashed , been in at angle, my fault ! Carbon on threads. Tried to get a new pre chamber but all pattern ones have a much finer thread so no use luckily G Wagon G came to the rescue, built up internal of old pre chamber with a lot of welding as metal not thick enough to re cut thread. Then with it full of weld , Gaz firstly made the top concentric then carefully cut the threads using his machine shop skills on trusty Lathe, not as straight forward as you think but result is no leaks and a quiet engine. It helps to know the right people as could not  get a second hand replacement , thanks Gaz, as otherwise would be shelling out main dealer prices and a 5 day wait!

Re: 603 injection noise,pre chambers

Praise worthy comments Jason

You do well to fix your own g wagon in the sticks

Glad g wagon is running ok but i did think the pre chamber was for your friend and not your vehicle???

I dont think you can get the original part from mercedes anymore but people will tell me different, or should i say with the correct thread

Its no hassle to tig weld it up and cut a new thread its just not hitting the bottom of chamber thats important

I have 3 spare engines so if all goes bad g wagon owners will be ok for a while lol

How did the steering arm puller work i made or have you not done it yet??

It took 540 ftlbs of torque to get mine off and i tried 2 15 tonne pullers that snapped and a commercial one that chewed the thread

I had to make one and it did mine fine

Let me know if it did your steering arm ok and dont forget to oil thread if you have not already done the job

If not bring it over and i will do it

Call the landline at workyes

You or i need a satellite phone to communicate lol to save time typing in our no signal world lol
