I had a little low speed lock-up on an icy road today (front only) which made me look at my tyres... i have two Goodyear Wrangler A/T tyres on the back.. 1 Khumo Powerguard A/T on the front R and a Cooper Discoverer A/T on the font L.. all with good tread.
Should i change the two fonts to match the rears? Ive heard mismatched tyres can cause a handling problem... they are all rated as the same size... no real issues driving.. until today.. i expect any tyre would have slid on an icy road.. but am wondering if the two fronts were a contributing factor... anyone advise me?
I'm not sure it mater a great deal unless it's a mix of crossply and radials. Not common these days I'd have thought. That said, unusual to have such a mix.

Just for the sake of argument, and I'm assuming here you've had the front slide on icy surface.
Logically the tyre will loose traction and slide when there is too little friction with the surface of the road. Given that the road friction is the same at all the wheels then a common tyre on all wheels would be ideal and then all wheels would have the same amount of grip - leaving out which wheels are being driven and whether going straight or turning. I would imagine that the exact same conditions under each tyre does not always occur and therefore the ideal situation does not occur.
Generally it would seem that most folks would decide on a tyre for whatever reasons and fit them on all wheels. This also look neat and tidy. Overall, rubber compound, age, tread type and pattern, pressure, temperature etc all affect grip. I've just changed from Pirelli Scorpion to Goodrich TA and the grip and comfort are vastly improved - the Pirelli were old the Goodrich new - does this mean anything?
I'd prefer matching tyres all round but whether thats merely so it looks nicer........
