Folks - You might have seen my other post/question on Diffs/Axles - to add to that question does anyone have any advice on the 230GE engine. Is it worth trying to squeeze extra power out of that unit? I appreciate it might not be the most economical option on MPG but has anyone attempted to performance tune with any success or even the 280? I suppose its all down to cost versus complexity at the end of the day. Thanks in advance.............JJ

The Cosworth 16v 2.3 is essentially the same unit with a twin cam head, I don't know of anyone trying it though because the issue with a tank like the G is weight, and this need torque. The 280 is lovely engine, revvy smooth everything you could want in an SL

It can be done. There are high compression heads and I've seen performance cams.

Same applies to the 280. As above a great engine, but thirsty.

Personally I wouldn't bother swapping the engine to a 280.

The favoured conversations are to diesel.
The 605 series being the simplest.
I did a 606 conversion but I was starting with a 603 in a 463 so somewhat easier I think.

I did OM605 turbo too! Best and cheapest now option I think... If you do lot of mileage, I would consider 2.7CDI...

OM606 cost more, more thirsty, but IMHO better option who hauling stuff around and need more power for it...
