I'm looking at a 2011 G350 that has had the factory COMAND system removed and a double DIN headunit put in. Now obviously that's an upgrade in regards to navigation and media etc but I just wanted to be sure there is nothing vehicle related that I won't be able to control now. In the later vehicles a lot of the vehicle settings are buried in the system but I'm not sure if 2011 is old enough to not have that or not?

I think if you dont have the floating ipad style system that has been replaced then you should be ok. Most of the menu details to do with the car can be accessed via the instrument cluster using the steering wheel buttons. The options on the old screen were more or less all in relation to the screen and the options for the navigation I believe.

Agree with Jim. I have the 2012 (later) and the first of the iPod COMAND models.

There, I can get OBDII type info, manage the Bluetooth connection, access MB manual, connection to the internet (don't bother) and setup linguatronic voice control. Also the rear view camera. Most of all this will be in the dual DIN radio/media system. Even a feed in for a rear camera, but maybe not the OEM one.

Without it, there are still functions at the steering wheel and on the dash display. I think anything there will still work.

I like the iPod. I would upgrade it to bigger (with Android car play etc) and there is a kit for that. For your model, the double DIN system replacement is a good move, IMO.

Re: 2011 COMAND System question

Thanks for that, just what I wanted to hear. As a 2011 it's the last year before they went for the screen up on the dash so I figured there probably wasn't anything too important in the older system.
