What's the panels view on this one?

why would a brabus have AMG badges ???
I like that very much. It seems to be very good value when compared against a similar age G500.
The Brabus B11 upgrade is around £18k just for the engine, so assuming it is the real deal ( I would want to see some kind of evidence it is a genuine Brabus engine) I would consider buying it.
The fact that the interior has also been upgraded is an added bonus and if it looks as good as it does in the advert then someone has gone to a lot of time and expense to upgrade this G to a very high spec.
It may not be the way it left the factory in 2002 but I think the loss of originality is made up for by a tasteful upgrade ( for a change) and added performance.

Ask the seller for evidence or better get the engine and VIN numbers, and verify with Brabus themselves. Lots of fake badges/plaques around.
That aside, if money no object, then definitely would have considered buying it.
Looks like a really really nice G.

Good advise
Probably be tempted to go one further and offer the seller full asking price, but with a fully detailed engineers report by Brabus themselves.
This upgrade I suppose.
Here's the VIN:
WDB4632481X124581
Looks like i left the factory as a standard spec 2000 ordered, 2000 MY, 2001 supplied LWB G500 M113.962 in 9197 Obsidian Black and headed out for 880 Dubai....
Stainless Brush Guard, Grille and Door Treads...Sunroof and Comand, Black Leather Heated Seats, Burr Walnut, Leather Steering Wheel and Shift Knob, Back Up Assist, 18" Rims and Stainless Spare Cover, Side Steps, Privacy Glass etc....
Standard Spider Spec
You would have to check with Brabus as stated above to see what the crack is....

"if money no object, then definitely would have considered buying it." If money were no objective one would buy a RHD G63 and then do a Brabus conversion.
"The Brabus B11 upgrade is around £18k just for the engine, so assuming it is the real deal I would consider buying it." The catch being, a) it is a LHD-Dubai car which recently landed in the UK, b) if the engine is on the way out, you most likely have to replace engine plus all attached aggregates plus labour, my guess (everything but a Brabus guy) double your estimate. Assuming money is no objective would you spend this money on a 2002 G500? The UK-LHD market for Gs is a market for mid-eastern customers.

I am not sure I follow your logic.
Why is it a problem if it is a LHD vehicle from Dubai rather than a LHD from somwhere in europe ?
Why do you make the assumption that the engine is on its way out. If the advert proves to be genuine then it has only done 55,000 miles. It may not have, but surely we can only judge the vehicle on the information we have available. It is also advertised on auto trader with more photos of the new interior which is very well done.
As I said in my earlier post if you take the sum of parts - Brabus engine and wheels, AMG bodykit, G63 exhaust and new interior then someone has spent some serious money on this G, so if the mileage is genuine and it goes as well as it looks where exactly will you find a cheaper one ??
Why did no-one else comment on the AMG badge?
a) dubai has a lot of sand, tends to get everywhere; b) AMG engines have to fulfill Mercedes standards, Brabus engines do not, c) the problem with high powered engines is that the mileage is no indication, short distances wear these engines down.
So what do you think it is worth ?
Interesting. I had thought that Brabus were an official partner with MB. A bit like AMG used to be before they were "assimilated".
If the paper work does not tally - Walk away or offer what you feel it would be worth
The honorable member in (soon to be) our closest neighbor - Scotland - does raise some good points, for a Brabus its a bargain, however, with the sand in dubai and seeing some of the ways those guys treat their G's and the fact that Brabus are not cheap to service (its a case of ' you better leave your card here with us sir.....!')
When MB were looking to buy a tuner, it came down to either AMG or Brabus, AMG won, though there are still close affiliations with Brabus - Drop the chairman a PM as he is a real Brabus fan and he can extol the virtues of why Brabus and not AMG.... lol

I looked at this car today in Bedford it is still owned by My next car.com which is an Asian owned setup with some very very expensive cars in stock. And I mean expensive. The G is a 55 according to badges and yes AMG badge too, engine is by the looks of it a Brabus B11 well it has a big red centre engine cover saying so. The car looks very tidy but is quite poorly, runs as rough as a badgers Arse, missing and running on 5 or 6 cylinders. Internal electrics are haywire Electric seats working backwards, windows not working, central locking not working. I drove it around and it's flat out at 60 mph. The seller says it came from Japan and the head unit is Japanese so possibly correct. At the moment the seller is open to offers just to see the back of it. Tempted yes.
I suspect that the internal electrics are a case of connectors coming off the switches on the door panels. They do not mate well and require a cable tie to stop the cheap connectors falling-off with vibration. The result is one-way movement of seat whatever you press. I had that on my 2001. Windows and central locking are probably similar issues. All the wiring and control units are inside the doors and connectors can easily fall off, or not be replaced properly when refitting the door cards.
The rough running may be a defunct coil pack or most-likely a MAF sensor. Not a big problem really.
However, be aware that first-registration in Japan does not count for Europe, so it will end up with a £500 + , top-band, annual road tax as a new gas-guzzler. If it were a Japan-only model, not sold in Europe , you'd be looking at only £230 road tax, as there would not exist any European Co2/km figures, but with a Mercedes, that most likely won't be the case.
All things considered, it may be an opportunity to pick up a bargain.
I would agree Arnie it might be a bargain.
I quite fancied this when it was first discussed it in 2014!!
I do like a bargain .
I can't seem to find the website of the dealer, any links ?
Electrical faults can cost a lot of time and money to resolve if you are not able to do it yourself. Diagnosing engine misfiring could be a major hassle. I suspect if it was a simple part replacement the owner would have fixed it. So I think you are looking at something deeper in the system. The wiring loom is the first thing to be fitted to the body so it is very difficult to remove it if there was a fault in the vehicle's wiring due to short, water or damage sustained during aftermarket installation of something.
It is currently listed on eBay just search G Wagon, it also has a fairly big oil leak, the whole underside is wet. It's only the white leather trim that stops me making an offer.
I sense a bargain as well : it is LHD, was delivered to Dubai, got converted to Brabus spec (Inshallah!), spent some time in Japan and then came to the UK with only minor hick-ups. Also, the car has improved over the last two years: mileage dropped from 55k to 35k and reflecting this the price has increased from £33k to £37k. The oil leakage can easily get fixed, and if not, anybody can rebuild a Brabus engine without affecting the resale value.
It might not appeal to the same buyer but a LHD 2008 G500 with 55k miles sells for £40k, similar power, more pleasant inside and a nicer ride.
and there is more : the engine spec (claimed 450 BHP in 2014, 380 BHP now) points to a M273 and not a M113 engine. However, it was delivered with a M113 engine, assuming there has been no engine swap, the real output should be around 335 BHP. Gav.Helme identified the car via the VIN as a 2000 MY, 2001 supplied, however, the photos show a 2001ff dashboard implying the less desirable CAN-BUS version putting non working seats/ windows and central locking into a new perspective. Whoever wants to make an offer has a lot of homework to do.
Theo I think you are getting confused between a B11 engine and a B11 engine kit.
The genuine Brabus B11 engine enlarges the standard 5.0 litre to 5.8 litres and produces 400bhp.
The Brabus B11 engine kit for the G500 increases power from standard to 335bhp but without enlarging the engine capacity.
The first one costs £18k the second one £7.5k.
The problem with this car is does it actually have a genuine Brabus built engine or just the aftermarket performance kit. Given all the conflicting information from the seller and the current condition of the car it would have to be very cheap to be a genuine bargain.
I would like a normally aspirated genuine 5.8 Brabus engine though .
ok, now I get it, the desirable car would be a B11 engine in a pre CAN-BUS car combining 2008 G500 performance with pre-2000 simplicity/ reliability; I can see the attraction.
I've not seen the car, but seen it up for sale for quite some time and from reading the comments it doesnt sound like a good one.
I can give you my experience of dealing with these guys though. The outfit used to be SH Car Sales and seems to have gone through a rename. A few years ago I went to see two Porsche Cayennes they had for sale. One was an absolute dog and the other was OK priced but needed a few things doing (engine light on etc). I told them I needed the car in 10 days as I needed the car for a road trip and left them with a £500 deposit. The car wasnt ready in time and the work was not carried out. I refused to take the car and they refused to give me the deposit back.
Then last year I negotiated on the phone to px my Ferrari for a Bentley they were selling. The idea was I would transfer my £500 deposit over too. I agreed a px value on the phone for my car and made the trip over to see the Bentley with my mechanic. The Bentley was much worse than expected and upon starting the car we could smell petrol in the engine bay. Needless to say the engine went straight off and we found one of the fuel rails leaking. To make things worse they decided to change their px offer on my car.
We walked away and I am still owed £500. I wouldnt buy from them so buyer beware. Consider the car if you accept the risk in buying from those cowboys!
True mate!
Small world when it comes to cars, these lot had an old Range Rover LSE, they claimed it had over £25k's worth of Overfinch stuff done to it.......guess what.! Yeah no paperwork to show anything, had a Overfinch steering wheel....that was it. He told me on the phone the engine was Overfinch.....nope just a plain 4.2 v8. Annoying as I took pretty much a whole day to go over and catches a lift over with a mate in case buying.
Re: B11. It seems like a to good to be true add. If it was the bored out G58 like James had at the G-wagen centre in caversham Then maybe I would have bought that by now! My G36 Brabus has more balls than that!
Ciao.

Found an original B11 5.8, this has all the bits you would want!
Rare electric curtains, fridge, overhead console, rear picnic tables, tv's, 4x seater etc
This must be the Brabus-business edition, also found on earlier Brabus models too.
