Hello.

......I have recently spent 2 years recomissioning a 1985 230 GE.

......This involved a great deal of hard work.

......Including complete new suspension, all the suspension mounts.

......Worst case scenario......New timing Chain..Brakes.you name it......!

.......Inaugral Journey, escaping the Amorous Advances of "Nurse Gladys Emanuel", changed through the Gears, not

.....entirely trusting the new Braking;- a little too rapidly & managed to find 5th, 4yh.....& 2nd .....Gear..!!!.

......Consequently managedto push far too many revs, through Crawler Gears, & I have slipped the main Bearing Shells...!

.......Absolute Nightmare............Can anyone offer any Advice.....?!..It would be very gratefully received.!

......What would be the best approach to replacing the main Bearing Shells, whilst maintaining theSynchronisity of the

.....Engine.

.......Would a w123 series 200 , carburetted , 4 speed manual engine fit, with the Appropriate adaption....?

........Could anybody recommend, the best Option, for power economy & performance to substitute....ie. a W124 series

.........Straight Six, Sprinter Diesel.engine rebuild.....All a Right Royal Catastrophy..any Advice Gratefully Received.

.....................................Thank you.

Straight six from a early w124 auto would be a nice adaption, more power than the 5 cylinder and much much smoother too, failing that why not the 606 multi valve in the later 124's, more power again. Final choice is the 606a the turbo version from the w210, rather more expensive but at least 175bhp. Lots of people convert the turbo diesel so chose wisely if thats your route as not all are good at it.

You might take a look at the G-Wagen Register site where Gav Helme has an E300TD OM606 complete car for sale in the parts section. Gav is legendarily knowledgeable and helpful. Good luck with resurrecting your vehicle. N.

Petrol Engine.....Straight Swap.....Engine Mounts, coupling to manual transmission, Bell Housing, space from Engine Bulkhead to Radiator, & inlet manifold KE jetronic system.....A Straight Swap......??

My vehicle was a petrol 280GE. A bunch of incompetent savages bodged a diesel OM606 into it before a rapscallion then sold it to me. It took years, pounds and an enormous amount of generous help for it to become the great vehicle it is now. The job is do-able, although not by just anyone.
