I have bought some Mercedes OEM wheels made by RONAL, part-number stamped A463 401 2402. They come with some reasonable Yokohama Geolander road tyres.

I am going to keep my 15" wheels and A/T tyres for off roading, I hope these new rims and tyres will be better on-road and correct the over-reading of my speedo somewhat as well as raising the gearing a little for cruising :-) I'm sure I'll be able to crack 20mpg now!

Looking forward to some daylight so I can fit them. Before/after shots attached!

You'll need a 30mm spacer with those. They foul on the suspension arms on full lock,

Thanks - I'll get some ordered. Just on the fronts or all around?

Will these do the job?

Re: 18" Ronal wheels

Hmm - they're 7.5" wide - so only 1/2" wider than the stock 15x7". Same offset - ET63.

One would assume they would simply be 12.5mm closer to any suspension arms etc. And the rim itself will be 1.5" further out on account of them being 18's not 15's.

30mm spacers seem excessive?

Re: 18" Ronal wheels

Hi

It wont affect the rear unless its really close anyway just check the front on full lock

If it does not touch the radius arms all is good and no spacers needed. Or adjust steering lock bolts on hubs so it misses if its not a mile off. You still will have a decent turning circle.Yes because of maths and angles you might need bigger spacers than you think but i would keep it standard and adjust the lock stops. Not a price thing but to just keep wheels bolted direct to hubs with no spacers

Those wheels suit it to be honest. I like them

my mistake,  thought your truck was a 460, those wheels are right without spacers.

Re: 18" Ronal wheels

Here's a pic fitted.

First impressions:

  • A lot less tyre noise
  • Better grip and braking, was pretty tragic in the wet before.
  • Not so sprightly off the line, but once you're underway not much difference to the performance
  • Speedo is now accurate. Was chronically over-reading before at 70 (about 81).
  • Marginally lower revs at a cruise. 70mph now about 3800 not 4000rpm.
  • Ride not quite as good but handling less wallowly. PSIs are 34 front 36 rear so might go down a tad and see if it improves the ride.

So all pretty predictable!

Yep - and I can keep the old set with A/T tyres for offroading! What's not to like?
